A Facebook post that labels the United States First Lady Michelle Obama as an “ape in heels” has sparked outrage, and at least one of two women responsible for the post have been axed from their jobs.

Pamela Ramsey Taylor, the director of the government-funded Clay County Development Corporation, wrote a Facebook post after Donald Trump’s election on November 8:

“It will be so refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady back in the White House… I’m tired of seeing an Ape in heels.”

While the mayor of Clay County, Beverly Whaling is reported to have responded with:

“Just made my day Pam.”

While the post has now been removed, it didn’t take long for social media to spread it around like a wild fire with condemnation towards the two women for their racist remarks.

Whaling has since issued a statement to The Washington Post apologising for her involvement in the matter and citing that things “got out of hand”.

“My comment was not intended to be racist at all,” Whaling writes. “I was referring to my day being made for change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feelings this may have caused! Those who know me know that I’m not of [sic] any way racist!”

A petition calling for both the women to resign garnered more than 40,000 signatures.

However, WTRF 7News confirmed on its Facebook page that Taylor had been removed from her position at the Clay County Development Corporation.

Is there ever an excuse for racism? Do you think both women should be held accountable for their statements? Share your thoughts with us.

“Classy” is not a word I would associate with the new First Lady. It certainly does describe Michele Obama, though.

You have to be joking, take of your blinkers

Michelle Obama is as calssy as her husband who is a true statesman both are sterling examples people who hold real values and character .

  2. Jo Carson

I’d want both, Pamela Ramsey Taylor and the mayor Beverly Whaling, sacked. Both sound racist.

What on earth were they thinking!! Oh, they weren’t. Michelle Obama is the epitome of grace, elegance and pure class, these women are jealous gutter rats. They should both be fired and made to apologise in person to the first lady..

    • Jennifer Young

I agree, Michelle is a very classy lady. There has been no scandal, while the Obama’s have been in office. Only wish they could have stayed longer.

    • Bill

Michelle is a class act unlike these othwer two

  4. Diane Smith

There is NEVER an excuse for racism, NEVER EVER.

  5. Sheridan Skutenko

Michelle Obama has always had Class – something these two females no nothing about!!

  6. Heather Wells-Jones

Have never seen nude or semi nude photos of Michelle Obama. Trump’s wife may be good looking but has no class or grace about here. Photos of her in her modelling days and comments she has made concerning her and Donald’s sex life are not what one would expect from a First Lady or in fact any decent lady

    • There is nothing decent about any of the Trump clan. How can his wife converse with any foreign dignitary, when she can hardly speak English. As for class, there is nothing classy about an EX nude model trying to be something she isn’t, and never will be, and that is a first lady with grace and elegance, which Michelle Obama had plenty of.

this is how racism survives, when people are allowed to excuse their racist remarks. Both women should have been sacked and there should be other penalties that might make them wake up and see their remarks for exactly as they are. Michelle Obama has brought dignity and class to the whitehouse. The Obamas as a family has shown the world that America has people who can represent the country without scandal or drama. what a disgrace both these women are

    • Glennis McDonald

You have expressed , for me, exactly how it should run for these women. Your comment on the family is beautiful. Thank you.

Michelle Obama is a perfect example of the title of Lady, so full of class but still down to earth, in no way a snob..these 2 women however ate a perfect example of when someone is a legend in their own lunch box, ,10 foot tall and bulletproof, well, now you know that you are none of the above, time to move over & let someone with a bit more finesse take your jobs….Michelle should be your next President.

  9. Guy Flavell

Michelle Obama most certainly does not warrant disgusting taunts like this one. But, everyone should realize that it was
only ONE comment made on the entire Facebook network and the person concerned has been justifiably denounced and has
now lost her job. Undoubtedly Michelle would now have been ‘President – Elect’ if the Democrats had been smart enough to convince
her to be their candidate in lieu of the corrupt and dishonest Hillary Clinton.

Absolutely aghast at these words, but then, I’ve been aghast at the behaviour (not American spelling) of many people since the election. The absolute abuse aimed at Donald Trump and his family is atrocious and really, some people should be locked up for the threats they have made. You can’t keep the Obamas, that is the way it is, so at least give the Trumps a go.

As far as I am concerned, when Michelle Obama went into office she was well she handles herself beautifully and came across well educated and composed as a first lady. However she made one fatal mistake in the end and so did her husband, they should have kept their poise and class instead of travelling from state to state desperately convincing The American people that Hilary Clinton was the perfect candidate and putting their reputation on the line in supporting a woman that was corrupt, power hungry and dishonest. At the end the public thought that they were promised the moon just like all the rest of the high powered Clinton supporters who were promised favors in return. The Obama’s fierce support for Hilary Clinton, was so incredibly contradictory to when Obama was running against her and said she was unfit to run the country. People saw through that and that is where the Obama’s lost all their credibility. If they would have concentrated on running the country instead of dropping everything as they did for someone that was not worth all that, they would have ended their term on a very high note, and they would have been remembered and treated with a great deal more respect.
As far as Donald Trunp wife, she was a model, so what? she was beautiful and sought after, however she was is highly educated, she is a very smart and elegant lady with family values and an entrepreneur in her own right. If Elle McPherson were to become the wife of a president no one in this country would knock her and yet she is also a great business woman, but she also posed nude in her career. The current Mrs Trump did posed in lingerie true, but she was a model and that was her job at the time she was also on the cover of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar (very exclusive magazines) she worked hard to make it but never posed nude.

    • Gerry

It is part of their job to promote the candidate of their party

    • Dani

Mrs.Trump DID pose nude. Look it up. Mrs. Obama is a First Lady to look up to and respect. This raciat talk is inexcusable.

Extremely long reply basically excusing a blatantly Racist characterisation of Michelle Obama.
