Singer George Michael has passed away

The Wham! singer has passed away.

In sad news this morning, singer George Michael has passed away aged 53.

His publicist released a statement saying George died peacefully at home.

“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.

“The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”

George is beloved around the world for his music, particularly through his career with band Wham! who he had many hits with.

Millions of people around the world will no doubt be listening to his timeless Christmas carol ‘Last Christmas’ today in his honour.

He also had an amazing solo career with his album Faith a favourite with music lovers everywhere.

He was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, but changed his name when he launched his career so people would be able to easily pronounce it.

George sold over 100 million albums throughout his career, but more importantly he was known as one of the kindest and most generous people in the industry.

Millions of fans around the world are grieving the loss today and remembering a truly remarkable musician.

His publicist said he was at his grand home in England when he passed, with close friends and family taking solace that he was in a place he loved so dearly when he went.
