Richard Branson’s disturbing meeting with Donald Trump

Virgin boss Richard Branson is no stranger to strange times. The man who loves to live life to the fullest sometimes puts himself in incredible situations because he can. However, what was supposed to be a simple lunch date with another Billionaire turned stranger than even he was comfortable with.

In a blog post, Branson wrote about the time he sat down for lunch with the not yet then Republican Nominee for President of the United States. At the time they had never met, and Trump invited him for a meeting and lunch at his Manhattan apartment. “Even before the starters arrived he began telling me about how he had asked some people for help after his latest bankruptcy and how five of them were unwilling to help,” Branson wrote. “He told me he was going to spend the rest of his life destroying these five people.”

Mr Branson has always had a positive outlook on life and told Mr Trump that this sort of negativity is no way to spend a life. “I said it was going to eat him up and do more damage to him than them. There must be more constructive ways to spend the rest of your life. (Hopefully, my advice didn’t lead to him running for President!),” he wrote.

Why Trump had asked Richard Branson to lunch was a mystery. Was it just to tell him about the five that had done Trump wrong or was it to ask him for money? If it had been to ask him for money, Mr Branson wrote: “I would have become the sixth person on his list!”

“What concerns me most, based upon my personal experiences with Donald Trump, is his vindictive streak, which could be so dangerous if he got into the White House.” Branson wrote. He also spoke in contrast to his meeting with Trump about his meeting with Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton. Instead of launching into a personal story, “we talked about education reform, the war on drugs, women’s rights, conflicts around the globe and the death penalty. She was a good listener as well as an eloquent speaker.”

Whether or not Mr Trump would classify Mr Branson as a “corrupt” media that is helping to “rig” the election against it yet to be seen, but as Trump showed earlier, he’s not afraid to sue someone. Mr Branson just might have pockets deep enough to take him on.
