Queen Elizabeth has greeted guests at Windsor Castle to mark the 40th Anniversary of Motability – charity that helps disabled people find greater independence through easy-access transport.
The Queen chatted to a number of people who have benefited from the charity and their families and took her time looking at a classic invalid carriage — or ‘Blue trike’ as it was known in the 60s and 70s — which had been sent to the Royal grounds for the day.
She was all smiles as she met with charity workers and the families and appeared to be delighted by a little girl who presented her with a beautiful bunch of flowers.
The royal family shared a number of photos from the day on their official Instagram page, saying she presented the charity with keys to new vehicles to lease to those in need.
“Her Majesty The Queen hosted a ceremony at Windsor Castle today to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Motability,” they wrote.
“The charity enables disabled people, their families and carers to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair using their mobility allowance.
“The Queen, who has been Motability Patron since 1977, presented five Motability customers with keys to their new vehicles.”
