Princess Diana’s former butler has a message for Duchess Catherine

Paul Burrell has a message for Duchess Catherine.

Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell has opened up about his relationship with her, and a lack of one with her sons.

Talking to the Sunrise crew Paul Burrell reminisced about his role as the butler and the responsibility it brought. “I knew her inside out,” he said.

Describing that she was up against the system, with lies and stories being told about her, Burrell said she then became a saint when she died. “She was flawed, she was an incredible unique and inspirational human being … she had problems.” Those flaws, he said, included her battle with bulimia all her life and fears of dying.

Since Princess Diana’s death in 1997 Burrell hasn’t spoken to Prince William or Prince Harry but said he would love to, and he’s also love to speak to Princess Kate. “I’d love to tell Kate to about this incredible woman who changed all the rules to make her life more comfortable. That is what Diana did.”

Although he says he doesn’t know why the boys haven’t spoken to him he thought it was because he was an outsider, the one that got away. Still, he say’s they are wonderful boys who were following in their mother’s footsteps. “They are a product of Diana.”

Talking of the Princess, Burrell said her later years were unhappy ones in many ways. While he said he never saw Princess Diana hit Prince Charles or harm herself in front of him, he confirmed the princess did harm herself and there were many arguments behind closed doors.

Despite that, he said there were happy times in her life. “Those boys were born out of love but then it went sadly wrong, because of another person in the marriage. Diana said that.” he said.
