Remember in December when Prince Charles used his Christmas message to warn the world was dangerously close to repeating the “dark days of World War 2”.

Well, he’s issued a similar warning while speaking at a Jewish fundraiser, and many people believe his comment is aimed at Donald Trump.

As you’ve probably read, there’s some furore in the UK over a state visit by Trump in the near future, and while Charles doesn’t name the US president in his speech you can see why people have drawn a link.

Prince Charles was speaking at a fundraiser for World Jewish Relief, mentioning Holocaust survivorBen Helfgott.

He warned that there was “an increasing danger” of the world forgetting the horrors of World War II.

“The work of World Jewish Relief enables us to rally together to do what we can to support people practically, emotionally and spiritually,” he said, according to NewsCorp reports.

“Particularly at a time when the horrific lessons of the last war seem to be in increasing danger of being forgotten.

“To meet Ben, and others who, like him, have endured indescribable persecution, is to be reminded of the danger of forgetting the lessons of the past.

“World Jewish Relief shows us how vital it is to learn lessons from the horrors of the past.”

His speech comes just days after the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

It echoes his speech in December, in which Prince Charles spoke about the rise of populist groups.

“I was born in 1948 – just after the end of World War II in which my parents’ generation had fought, and died, in a battle against intolerance, monstrous extremism and an inhuman attempt to exterminate the Jewish population of Europe,” he said back in December.

“That, nearly seventy years later, we should still be seeing such evil persecution is, to me, beyond all belief. We owe it to those who suffered and died so horribly not to repeat the horrors of the past.”

Despite people trying to link his latest speech to Donald Trump’s immigration ban, there are reports emerging that Prince Charles actually wrote the speech before Trump’s executive order.

What do you think of Prince Charles’ speech? Has the world forgotten the lessons of the past?

  1. Diandra

Oh come on Charles. Go into your rose garden and smell a rose.

    • Guy Flavell

Love your comments Diandra. But, just like you and me he’s entitled to his opinions,
      especially his disdain for anti-semitism.

    • Dale Hennessy

Why the disdain? Do you not see the similarities between what happened then and what is happening now?

  2. Glenys Howard

Of course I agree with him! Any thinking person would! We are all in danger of forgetting why previous wars were fought. He may have penned this speech prior to Trump’s election. That is why it’s so poignant. Be careful what you wish for people.

    • John Kleinman

He is absolutely correct. We ate headed towards another dark era and we may or not be able to stop it.
The signs are there. The middle east in constant termoil and Trump making sweeping changes both within the USA and abroad. For the USA to get friendly with the Kremlin may well be for the better because those sort of tensions will help no one. It is China and in particular, North Korea that may well push too many buttons. Something will hit the fan soon and it wont smell like roses.

      • Faye Dapiran

Well said, it is a worrying and scary time. Prince Charles, and I am not a royalist, but he is up to date, and does know what is happening. Good on him.

  3. Prince Charles is a smart man and up to date with what is happening in the world. He does not put warnings out there without knowing the facts. In fact he’s probably walking a fine line putting his own opinions out there at all, with his government limiting him as to what he can say on anything political.
The Tribulation will be coming, probably quite soon. The Rapture WILL happen, and then Jesus will return. Please repent while there is still time.

    • Guy Flavell

Tina please explain. What on earth is “the Tribulation” and “the Rapture” ???
Will I find them in the book of Revelations ? Will I get good odds from Sportsbet
on them happening ? Should I be digging a shelter in my back yard to escape them ?
Should I be organizing anti tribulation and rapture marches to parliament house ?
This all VERY worrisome I must say !!!

  4. Keith Cashman

What did he propose we should do about it, what can he do about it.
The populations in western countries have been made powerless to defend themselves by mindless governments following Fabian and Centralist beliefs.
We can moan and groan but he has the means of actually putting pressure where it belongs but all he does is talk, like all the politicians except Donald Trump.

    • Dale Hennessy

He has little power except to urge people to wake up! He is doing that but it’s up to the people to put pressure on the government to stop this visit. After Brexit, I think the Brits have fallen into the same mindless uneducated creatures we have here and in America…. there are so many of them who can’t see beyond their own noses that they have voted in the Hitler replacement!! Remember Hitler was voted in by the people as well!

  5. Guy Flavell

I can only admire Charles’ stance on anti-semitism. Apart from the many, many letters he sends
to ‘the powers that be’, these kind of addresses are really the only formats he can pursue.

  6. HMW

Prince Charles is not wrong. The denial of human rights in both Australia and America is alarming and shows we have not learnt the lesson of history.

  7. crakeka

Withdraw the invitation for Trump’s State Visit with the Queen.

  8. gwendolyn smith

Be aware and mindful of Sharia Law

  9. Ray

I am not a real fan of Prince Charles, but here he is absolutely correct. Trump is would be Hitler and there is a real need to be concerned with his racist and extreme right wing policies. History will show that Charles is a moderate and considerate, with a passion for the environment, human rights, social justice and peace in the world.
