Pauline Hanson aims the blame for One Nation’s undoing in the WA elections

It was a hotly contested election in Western Australia.  Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party was looking for a major swing in their direction.  However, it wasn’t to be with the Mark McGowan led Labor party forming government in a landslide victory.

Pauline Hanson blames the preference deal with the Liberal Party as the undoing of One Nation’s bid for government.  She told the press, “It was a mistake”.  She added, “I wasn’t here to shore up [Liberal Premier] Colin Barnett, but a lot of people do not understand the preference system.”

While they didn’t win government, she is still hopeful that One Nation will win a number of the seats in the WA upper house.  Ms Hanson also sites a “rushed” campaign that was littered with disgruntled candidates that caused “havoc” on the campaign.

“All in all I think we have done an excellent job,” she concluded.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull offered his congratulations in a press release today writing, “I congratulate Mark McGowan on his victory in the Western Australian state election yesterday and I thank Colin Barnett for his outstanding leadership over more than eight years.”

He concluded, ”

The State’s remarkable progress is due in large part to the leadership of Colin Barnett; his State and our nation owe him a great debt of thanks for his many years of leadership and public service.

“I look forward to working with Mark McGowan to deliver for the people of Western Australia.”

Do you think that the preference deal was the reason One Nation didn’t win?  Do you think that the Prime Minister is worried about the turn against his party?
