One of The Beatles reportedly headed Down Under

One quarter of The Beatles is better than no quarter of The Beatles.

We’ve only had to wait 24 years but it seems living legend Paul McCartney is set to perform in Australia later this year.

In what some are calling a “last chance” to see the former Beatle, the 74-year-old is reportedly just “months away” from returning Down Under.

Sources told The Herald Sun yesterday that Frontier Touring founder Michael Gudinksi has McCartney lined up to “rock AMMI Park this summer”.

The venue has previously hosted superstars Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters and Taylor Swift.

The publication claimed the deal was close to being locked in and if made, would see the former Wings frontman play a string of dates in November and December.

Interestingly, McCartney’s published touring schedule shows he’s available on the rumoured Australian dates.

The British rock star has just wrapped-up a series of shows in Tokyo and is slotted to return to the US from July to October with his One on One tour.

Locking in McCartney will be a huge win for promoter Gudinski as the British rock star has so far eluded promoters since his last performance in Australia in 1993.

McCartney was scheduled to return in 2002, but abruptly cancelled his two shows at Melbourne’s Docklands stadium, citing the Bali bombing as his reason for pulling out

“This is not the appropriate time for a rock show,” he said in a statement.

While McCartney expressed his deepest sympathies, at the time, he did not indicate a desire to reschedule.

However, The Herald Sun cited unconfirmed ‘long-held rumours’ that he had cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
