We’re used to hearing One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts saying things that not everybody might agree with.

From his comments about climate change to his views on immigration, he’s certainly one of the most talked about political figures in Australia.

But now they’re talking about him across the ditch – and he’s not proving popular with the Kiwis at the moment.

If you’ve been watching the news, you might have heard Senator Roberts released a statement on Wednesday slamming New Zealand for “stabbing Israel in the front”.

“At the very least, we should look at further cutting benefits for New Zealanders living in Australia,” he said.

“Perhaps a tougher immigration policy aimed towards New Zealand would stop Kiwis from establishing settlements in Australia.”

He also hit the airwaves, saying the Federal Government should work with New Zealand to stop them from “doing this kind of thing that undermines Israel’s existence”.

“What we’re saying there we need to look at any sort of alternatives that will put pressure on the New Zealand government so the New Zealand government doesn’t do this kind of thing in the future,” he said on Newstalk ZB.

You might be wondering how his comments were received in New Zealand?

Well, he’s been slammed by one MP who’s labelled him “simple” and a “village idiot”.

Opposition MP Kelvin Davis said Senator Robert’s comments were “just crazy”, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

“I really don’t know what the guy is going on about, but I suspect it is just a platform for himself,” he said.

“The politics of hate and persecution and creating an enemy – it is classic Australian politics.

“I read his press release yesterday and I suspected the guy was a bit simple and listening to that interview then, I think that has confirmed it,” he said.

“He’s a climate-change conspiracies’ theorist; he’s a racist and probably the saddest thing about his entry into Australia politics, spending so much time in Canberra, is he has denied a village somewhere in Australia of its idiot.

“What he is saying is absolutely nuts.

“We shouldn’t be surprised at One Nation’s low-IQ politics, which is basically to create an enemy – in this case it is New Zealanders – persecute that enemy and use the politics of hate and division for self-promotion. That is all they are really doing.

“New Zealand at the UN stood up for what they believed; One Nation stands for hate and division. What he is saying is just crazy.”

Whatever happened to the ANZAC spirit of mateship with our friends in New Zealand?

What do you think about this? Does New Zealand have a right to be upset at Senator Roberts’ comments?

why the heck has Australia got any right to decide what NZ says? This guy is an moron, a dangerous moron as he has some power.

    • Mike

WHY?? Why can we Aussies say things?? ’cause we have something called FREEDOM OF SPEECH, or don’t you agree with that either.

  2. Jeffery Bowtell

No they don’t,They call him a racist, Religion is not a race so who is the idiot in this debate, New Zealand has shown their bigotry by voting against the only democracy in the middle east. This goes against the Anzac spirit that they continually mention when the can’t defend their actions. The Anzac’s fought for freedom and democracy something that is not readily available in the middle east with exception of Israel and New Zealand has thrown this out the window with their stance against Israel

  3. John Dorey

By slamming Israel in this way, NZ has hown support for palestine and their dershfhip, Hamas, wich s a declared terrorist organisation. Does this not make the NZ government supporters of terrorists?

This double standard by many governments including NZ is siply stupid.

  4. Ken

Jeffery, the Israelis have been in breach of the Geneva Convention with its settlements. That’s the same convention that sets rules of war including how POWs are treated. genocide and the like. Sure, Israel is a democracy but that should not protect them from the rule of law and that’s just about an immutable. Israel is wrong, most of the Middle East is a basket case but no one should think it’s ok to break the Geneva Convention. If we go along with Israel then we might as well revert to the law of the jungle, slaughter POWs and allow other heinous practices. For mine, what we should do is build a dirty great electric fence around the Middle East and leave them to it.

    • Sandy Balfour

Thank goodness someone has a rational educated view.

    • In this never ending political argument – Israel existed thousands of years before Mohammed was even born. Arabs and Jews were as one! If the Palestinians would agree thatIsrael has the right to exist as a State, then there would be peace. Rather, they chose to vote the terrorist thugs Hamas to speak for them. Israel has the right to defend itself against the continual bombardment, attacks, murders. As a Kiwi, I don’t agree with NZ stance on this issue. Ken, I think it’s rather abysmal and hypocritical to quote the Geneva Convention when we see the mass murder and daily bombings in Syria and Iraq. We don’t see Israel attacking or bombing any country, unless it’s in retaliation to its own safe.

Malcolm Roberts just keeps on proving that he is two sandwiches short of the full picnic. One more example of why you should have to pass an intelligence test before you can be elected to parliament.

  6. Pamela

NZ supports moslem terrorists and labels Chinese imports as NZ produce.

    Had enough of them! 😛

    • Chris

Could you please explain how NZ supports Muslim Terrorists and labels Chinese imports as NZ produce

    • Sandy Balfour

Yes please back up your comments with fact.

      • Jim

Poor Pamela obviously believes everything she reads on Social media ,

  7. Dee

New Zealand shows again that it’s not afraid to stand up for what is right. Unlike us, their government hasn’t totally lost its moral compass. I admire their stance and Senator Roberts is a fine example of the depths that our once beautiful country has sunk to.

    • Peter Banham

At last this New Zealand Government has done something right

  8. julie Kalashnikoff

obviously his statements went over most people’s heads. He was making a comparison to what New Zealand just did to Israel – Prohibiting Israel from living on their own land so he thought he would hive New Zealand a taste of their own medicine. Clearly New Zealand neither “got it” or “liked it” strange that they think this same treatment is O.K. for them to pass / force onto Israel

  9. Listen up….if you are CHRISTIAN then the land in question is Israels land because God gave it to them…however the land has been geographically Palestinian land for centuries….in which case the Israelites are the aggressor….did not the Israelites claim the land after defeating Arab nations in battle…which was bought about by the Palestinians effort with support from other Arab nations,to reclaim their land..

  10. Paul Hoolihan

I think the comment that he is a “moron” is right on the money. Sadly, as mentioned, he is a dangerous moron. I think the SMH was probably correct in outlining that, by being in Canberra, he is depriving some Australian village of its own idiot. But which one would have him.

    • Ann Day

the only village to have him already has a great many idiots in it. at least he will feel at home in Canberra
