We’re no stranger to reading and hearing some of the controversial opinions of political candidates, especially those representing Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party.

From the candidate who described homosexuality as an illness, to the candidate who thinks the Port Arthur massacre was fabricated, there have certainly been some interesting viewpoints put forward.

Now, another candidate is in hot water – and this time his comments have offended single mums and people on the disability pension.

The ABC reports that David Archibald, One Nation’s candidate for the West Australian seat of Pilbara made the comments in an article in wrote in 2015.

The article highlighted his opinion that there are “lifestyle choices that could be defunded”.

“The first that springs to mind is single motherhood,” he wrote.

“These are women too lazy to attract and hold a mate, undoing the work of possibly 3 million years of evolutionary pressure.

“This will result in a rapid rise in the portion of the population that is lazy and ugly.

“We know what causes pregnancy these days, so everyone who gets pregnant outside of marriage is a volunteer. This is an easy one for defunding.”

If you were ever a single mother, that’s sure to make you mad!

Are you on a disability pension?

Well, Archibald wrote that the disability pension and childcare could also be defunded.

“The 800,000 Australians on the disability pension. OK, not all of them. But a good proportion are able to drive cars, bash police and each other, go fishing and so on,” he said.

“Now comes federally funded childcare. This is a lifestyle choice. Looking after children is very labour-intensive.

“If society wishes to encourage childbearing, it should reward that with tax rebates to the childbearing pair and leave it at that.”

He also wrote another article, in which he described the Stolen Generation as a “myth”.

And when the ABC approached him about his comments, he reportedly told them he stood by them.

We’ve all had a controversial opinion before, or put pen to paper without thinking, but what do you think about this trend of candidates saying controversial things?

Do you think he should be disendorsed? Or do you agree with what he wrote?

Pauline needs to weed out these idiots who will bring her party down. This bloke should get the boot asap.

  2. Sally

David Archibald is a low life and it’s wacky that Hanson, One Nation Leader – puts up with his garbage! She is being insulted by One Nation her candidate David Archibald, look: Hanson nee Pauline Seccombe married Walter Zagorski, a Polish refugee, in 1970, divorced 1977 – 2 kids. Then married Mark Hanson in 1980, divorced 1987 -2 kids. Therefore was sole parent twice!

David Archibald,Is as intitled to his opinion as Lexie and Sally whose comments are attacking Pauline Hanson first, and David Archibald second as per the anti one-nation agenda. Hanson’s is a new party of fresh thinking free indivuals, not Robotic,party/union hacks put in over the wishes of voters as reward for towing the party line of B/S.
The old two and a half party system has failed us and fresh blood ,ideas and approaches are called for. This is very scairy to the establishment, coming on top of Brexit and Trump victories. A good ass-kicking is coming for fools who are not prepared for the changes

He’s entitled to an opinion no matter how stupid, irrational or ridiculous. Not all supporting mums are dole recipients or bludgers, many are hard working struggling women abandoned by men who were simply sperm donors who accepted little or no responsibility. These women are left holding their babies and have little choice in the matter.

Isn’t it amazing that these morons who attack and criticize single mothers are so misogynist it never seems to occur to them that there’s also a single FATHER involved? I
It’s a supporting PARENTS benefit and has been for decades and is available to a parent who’s been deserted by the other partner or who’s had to leave a relationship, for example because of violence. I can’t imagine why this would result in the children being ugly and lazy. As for the Disability Pension, he obviously has no idea how many hoops need to be jumped through to get on to this benefit: it’s not available on demand.

I resent Women who have no intention of working for a living but go on having children by different Fathers just to remain on the pension. Use each child to get the benefit of being supported by the tax payer till the age of 18 and what is even more disgraceful is it is a vicious circle often those children grow up and do the same thing their Mothers did. I resent too women who roll from one degree to another all on the tax payer and never use their degrees to help themselves. This is shocking and something needs to be done to stop this. These are people with no self respect or pride.I too divorced my husband but made sure my sons would never go through a step Father or any more children to confuse my sons. Thank God I was given the correct basics of life of respect for others and self. Honesty, Trust, Self sacrifice which indicates true love. I am proud to say my sons consider me a privilege to have as a Mother. I am not perfect but try to stick to basics. If I am not appreciated by man woman or child I will walk away and lleave them to learn the hard way.

Well said, Joan. You stand by what you believe in and I guarantee that your children are as proud as punch of their Mum. I agree with all that you stated. Good on you.
