No royal treatment for the Royals

Earlier this week we saw the beautiful family pictures of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with Prince George and Princess Charlotte in the French Alps. Although they managed to slip away for the holiday without drawing attention from the media, it turns out planning their next official trip to France in June was not as smooth skiing.

It is reported that a luxury hotel in France turned down a booking from the Duke, Dutchess and Price Harry as they were already fully booked.

Le Hôtel Marotte in Amiens said that it was “unethical” to cancel existing reservations to make room for the Royals. They will be representing Britain at the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, but the hotel they had planned to stay at was “already booked solid”.

It is reported that the Royal Family requested four suites for two nights, from the 30th of June to the 1st of July at the hotel, which happens to be the only five-star accommodation near the battlefields.

Oliver Walti, the hotel’s manager, told French newspaper Courier Picard they were contacted by the French Foreign Ministry in January but they were unable to make the booking.

“The Foreign Minister has contacted us in January to see if we were able to accommodate the Royal Family on the occasion of the Somme commemorations,” He said.

“We had to decline the offer, it is impossible, we are already booked solid.”

“We could not tell people who have booked with us for months and who have already paid for their stay, sorry, but the Royal Family is coming, we will have to cancel. It’s just unthinkable ethically.”
