If you’ve been watching or reading the news this week then you might have heard some interesting things about Nicole Kidman.

An interview with the Aussie actress went viral this week, in which she was asked a question about Donald Trump.

In her response, Kidman said what many have been saying here on SAS – it’s time for the American people to get behind their president.

“He’s now elected and we, as a country, need to support who’s ever the president, because that’s what the country is based on. However that happened, he’s there and let’s go.” she said.

Her comments have been in stark contract to a lot of the comments you’ve probably seen or heard from other Hollywood celebrities.

And of course, the comments set off a lot of media hype that saw Kidman branded a ‘Trump supporter’ by many media organisations.

Unfortunately it also saw her cop some flak on social media – and now she’s fired back in another interview, defending her comments.

While it could be presumed her comments are supporting Trump, it’s not necessarily what she meant.

“I was trying to stress that I believe in democracy and the American Constitution, and it was that simple,” she told Access Hollywood.

“I’m out of it now; that’s what I said and it’s that simple.”

In the past, the actress has said she’s “always reticent” to comment on politics – and given the reaction, you can probably see why!

No doubt many of us can relate to how Nicole is feeling!

Have you ever been in her situation? What do you think of her comments?

  1. Annette Strong

Nicole has a right to voice her opinion without flak from the media or the whingeing leftists that cant accept the result. Trump won get over it he is already doing wonderful things for America and he isnt in office yet. There is hope for the millions of Americans on food stamps that they will once again be able to get jobs and regain their dignity.

    • Grace

Can you please tell us all what wonderful things he has done. I really need to know this, because I haven’t seen anything.

      • Diandra

Give him a chance. He is not President yet. His policies are good. What did Obama do but destroy. Look up….Sean Hannity….Obama farewell can’t hide a disastrous legacy.

    • Elaine Henderson

Annette, you say trump’s already doing wonderful things – so obviously you can elaborate on this. Getting rid of the health care system that has helped 20 million US citizens – that’s obviously a good thing, right?

  2. Rhonda Joy Hutton

Go girl – well done, Nicole – it took Aussie backbone to have a go – we live in a democracy, supposedly, and freedom of speech is part of that!

  3. J Rose

I can see what she is saying, If Trump fails as President, then he will be taking millions with him, and possibly not just Americans, if his decisions and actions cause a military conflict of any size, America’s allies and enemies become embroiled in it, same goes for trade conflicts. So Nicole is right, If you want things to remain peaceful with our allies and hopefully even improve, then logic says one must hope that Trump succeeds as POTUS.

  4. Denise

Typical media-why let the truth get in the way of a good story!!

  5. Hans_Hagen

Nicole has shown immense talent in her chosen profession. I do admirer her for that. However, it may be good advice for her to concentrate on her activities and distance herself from subjects she obviously has little knowledge about.
For starters, dual-citizenship is alike to playing with a two-headed coin. It is practically impossible to serve two masters at the same time. Australia is a great example that dual-citizenship does not work!

Modern Democracy has been defined as:
“Form of government, where a constitution guarantees basic personal and political rights, fair and free elections, and independent courts of law.” (Source: http://www.democracy-building.info/definition-democracy.html)

Nowhere in any legitimate Constitution is there provision that the active influence of a foreign power during the elections is an acceptable cornerstone for a Democracy.

    • Maree Adams

Gee !!! Don’t let anyone have an opinion unless it is Hans !!! What ever happened to free speech and the right to differing opinions and the right to debate them. All Nicole did was to say the election is over, a president is about to be inaugurated so lets support the will of the MAJORITY and get on with it. You cant reason with a poor loser Hans !!!

      • Hans_Hagen

Wow Maree, you should read articles with a little more caution because Nicole also said:

“I was trying to stress that I believe in democracy and the American Constitution, and it was that simple,” she told Access Hollywood” (Source: SAS).

If you believe that the recent US elections were “fair”, despite the confirmed interference from Russia, then you and I have a major communication problem. Nicole has every right to voice her opinions and use free speech but in her position of influence she should be more careful in making statements which can be interpreted as authoritative!

        “Poor loser Hans” ?
Hardly, but DEMOCRACY and TRUTH have lost a huge quantity of values!

  6. Joan Marshall

Nicole Kidman has shown intelligence unlike the many Hollywood stars who did not. President elect Donald Trump was elected because the people who voted him in have had enough of Hillary Clinton and Socialism that has got the American people nowhere. Hillary Clinton and her cohorts preach socialism while they fill their own pockets. The Hollywood stars who said they were leaving America a one way ticket would be great. I bet it was all talk because they know where their bread is buttered and are still hanging around like a bad smell.
