Earlier this week, Nick Kyrgios was riding high on one of the biggest wins of his career.

Now, he’s making headlines for his on court behaviour after losing a match – and if you’re a critic of his, he’s got a message for you.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Aussie tennis player was muttering on court and hitting his serves with less power than usual.

In fact, at one point the umpire Ali Nili pulled him up, describing his playing as “just not professional”.

“Nick, you can’t play like that,” he said.

“This is a professional tournament.”

If you missed the match,┬áKyrgios at one point even asked Nili “Can you call time so I can finish this match and go home?”

He was also give a warning for swearing from Nili, before stopping the match to argue with a spectator who shouted out ‘respect the game’.

“You wanna come here and play? Sit down and shut up and watch,” Kyrgios shouted back.

Speaking after his 6-3, 6-1 loss, Kyrgios said he didn’t understand the crowd’s reaction.

“I can’t really understand it at all. They don’t know what I’m going through, so no, I don’t understand it,” he said.

“I don’t owe them anything. It’s my choice. If you don’t like it, I didn’t ask you to come watch. Just leave.”

And he had this to say abut his critics.

“I feel like if they knew what they were talking about they’d be on the tennis court and being successful as well,” he said.

“If you’re so good at giving advice and so good at tennis, why aren’t you as good as me? Why aren’t you on the tour?

“You know I’m unpredictable. It’s your choice. I don’t owe you anything. Doesn’t affect how I sleep at night.”

What do you think of Nick Kyrgios’ latest controversy? Is it acceptable behaviour for a professional tennis player?

  1. KEN

this tosser needs to be banned from competitive tennis for life..end of story

    • Pam Watson

Quite agree. I thought Tomic was bad but this one leaves him for dead. Needs mental help.

  2. Roger james

I feel sorry for his parents who wasted their energy and dosh on his training. In my opinion he’s a disgrace to the game.

    • Diana Hockley

The first time Nick K was pulled up for bad behaviour when he insulted Stan Warwinka, his mother backed him every inch of the way saying that – in essence – her boy could do no wrong. Perhaps he hadn’t been his mu m’s sweet boy he might have learned proper behaviour.

  3. jenny Blakeney

He needs help – there is something wrong with the way he thinks and acts. He needs to learn the correct stance of a professional athletic. His body language is all wrong which goes with his attitude. He needs intensive therapy to change his whole demeanor. He has so much natural talent and it is absolutely devastating for him for his career to never reach its full potential. I feel sad for you Nick – please accept help and fix your problems and then reach the No 1 status that your talent deserves.

  4. Disey

He IS a waste of space – arrogant twit !

  5. Yvonne Vishnich

I wish Tennis Australia would kick him out of the game. LLeyton you are wasting your time with this idiot.

  6. Sharon Walsh

If I was his mother I would be so ashamed of him. I’m ashamed to call him Australian.

    • I think he’s mentally ill. He has too many mood swings one minute he’s up the next he’s down. He’s a darn good player. I feel sorry for his parents. He needs logical consequences like a 12 month ban.

  7. Lyn

Shouldn’t ever be called a “sports person” A disgrace to tennis & Australia

  8. Bruce Josey

We don’t need Nick representing Australia in this grand international game. If he wants to treat the game, and paying spectators in this manner, give him the boot and put the time and money invested into a player who will be grateful. I don’t even care if that person only gets to ranking 200. If he or she shows honest commitment, I am on board. Quit Nick, and give someone deserving their shot.

  9. Suzanne

Nick you have failed to realise that spectators pay good money to watch you and all professional tennis players. If the spectators stop coming to the tennis …… YOU don’t earn any $$$$$$$. Time to remember who butters your bread.
