Mary Tyler Moore dies aged 80

Another legend lost.

In sad news this morning, iconic television actress Mary Tyler Moore has passed away, aged 80.

A representative for the beloved actress said she was hospitalised earlier in the week and passed away on Wednesday.

“Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine,” her rep told the Huffington Post.

“A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”

Mary shot to fame in the 60s for her starring tole on the The Dick Van Dyke Show, before going on to forge her own legendary sitcom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

The show was groundbreaking for its time as it featured Mary as a single working woman trying to navigate her way through life without any of the traditional trappings – namely a husband.

The show also talked about taboo topics of the day, like going on the pill and asking for equal pay, making Mary quite the rebel.

Tributes are already pouring in for the actress with people remembering how they used to watch her show and laugh at her wicked sense of humour.

She will be dearly missed by all.
