If you missed the Today show this morning, you missed some strong words from Lisa Wilkinson on the issue of domestic violence.

After an interview with the family of murdered Gold Coast mum Tara Brown, Lisa decided to go to task on the government over funding domestic violence services.

She took aim at politicians in particular over their expenses, stating that the government needed to put “real dollars” behind the issue.

“They’ve got to stop shutting refuges, they’ve got to start opening them,” she said.

“They’ve got to properly fund our women’s helplines. Many of those calls sadly go unanswered.

“If politicians stop rorting their travel expenses and getting helicopters and put that money where it really needs to be we can solve this problem.”

They’re strong words from Lisa, who has been vocal on domestic violence issues in the past.

The sentencing of Tara Brown’s killer yesterday has brought the topic of domestic violence back to the forefront of conversation across the community, and many are questioning what can be done to stop these shocking cases from happening again.

Lisa’s criticism of the government has been praised by some on social media.
