Inhumane message sent out during Oscars acceptance speech

Oscar winner Asghar Farhardi .

The focus on the Academy Awards is normally about fashion and feature films.
That’s not to say a chance to get political is forgotten.
It was the winner of best foreign language film Asghar Farhardi , who received a large amount of applause for his speech; even though he wasn’t present at the event.
His award was collected on his behalf, and a message from him read out, denouncing the “inhumane law that bans entry of immigrants to the US”.
The message said it was a great honour to be receiving this award for the second time, and he apologised for his absence, before explaining why.
“My absence is out of respect for the people of my country and those of other six nations whom have been disrespected by the inhumane law…”
The message went on to say filmmakers can break down stereotypes.
“They create empathy between us and others.
“An empathy which we need to today more than ever.”
