Fans in a flap over Roger Federer’s new look

The Fed Express stares down the opposition.

He’s regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time, but could Roger Federer’s winning streak be thanks to his hair?

That’s the bizarre conspiracy theory flying around the internet today after the Swiss player debuted his new – shorter – hair cut.

Federer’s thick, curly locks have been a regular fixture on the tennis court since he entered the international arena.

When he was younger, he used to wear his longhair tied back in a pony tail, and in recent years he’s used a sweat band to keep the thick mop off his forehead during matches.

However, yesterday he showed up at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart with his shortest hair cut in years and fans went into meltdown claiming he has jinxed himself.

Theories flew around social media with many comparing him to the Bible story of Samson and Delilah, saying he cut off his special talents with his locks.

Strangely, the theory quickly came to life with Federer handed a stunning defeat, losing to German player Tommy Haas 2-6 7-6 (10-8), 6-4.

Some pointed out that last time he sported short hair back in 2013, he suffered a shock second-round loss to world No.116 Sergiy Stakhovsky.

So is this the end of the Fed’s winning streak? Only time will tell.

After a 10-week break from the circuit, he’s gearing up for Wimbledon where he will try to win the trophy for an unprecedented eighth time.

We’re pretty sure he will manage just fine, even without his luscious locks to keep him company.
