Emma Thomson says Donald Trump tried to date her

British actress Emma Thompson has revealed Donald Trump once asked her out to dinner and offered her a room at one of his hotels.

Thompson was a guest on Swedish news outlet SVT where she said she was working on a movie when the US president called her trailer to ask her out.

“He asked me out once. You wanna hear?” she said after the host brought up Trump’s presidency.

The actress said the call occurred after her divorce from her first husband in 1995.

“The phone rings in my trailer, which it’s never done before, so it’s like a moose had just entered my trailer,” she said.

“I lift up the phone, ‘Hi, it’s Donald Trump here.’ I said, ‘Really? Can I help you?’

“He said, ‘I wonder if I could offer you some accommodation in one of my Trump Towers, they’re really comfortable. I think we would get on very well, maybe we could have dinner some time’.

“I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was on my own and I just said, ‘Erm, I’ll get back to you’.

She confirmed she had not taken up his offer, but later joked: “I wish I had, think of the stories.”

Thompson is now married to actor Greg Wise who she met while filming Sense and Sensibility. The pair have a daughter together and an adopted son.
