Donald Trump confirms he’s under investigation

The US president has been under scrutiny since taking office.

United States president Donald Trump has appeared to confirm he is under investigation for his dealings with Russia and for firing former FBI directer James Comey.

Trump took to Twitter, his favourite tool of communication, to lament the “witch hunt” against him and accuse Hillary Clinton of destroying evidence tying her to Russia.

Reports this week confirmed that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether the President obstructed justice by firing Comey last month amid the ongoing Russia investigation.

In a flurry of tweets, Trump accused Mueller of being the one to tell him to fire Comey in the first place.

However, there has been no previous indication Mueller was involved in the decision.

The outburst comes a week after Comey gave damning testimony at a Senate intelligence committee hearing, accusing the President of being a “liar”.

In his statement, Comey said Trump asked him to drop the investigation into ties between former national security advisor Mike Flynn and Russia.

If proven to be true this would implicate Trump in an obstruction of justice, which is an impeachable offence.

On Friday, the President made extraordinary claims against Clinton and her family for their own alleged dealings with Russia, claiming smashed a phone with a hammer and “bleached” emails to cover their tracks.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Trump will survive his first term?
