Derryn Hinch and Pauline Hanson sound off on ‘sugar tax’

The proposed sugar tax is one of the hottest topics in politics at the moment. The tax and even some sugar bans are being pushed by health advocates because of the growing obesity problem Australia is facing.

At this time the Federal government doesn’t have the tax on the agenda, but schools and sporting facilities are being pressured to ban unhealthy food from their premises to protect children.  Many online say that this would turn Australia into a “nanny state”.

MPs Derryn Hinch and Pauline Hanson took to TV to condemn the idea of the tax with Pauline Hanson told Sunrise, “It’s about time people took responsibility for their own actions and what they put in their mouth.”

Mr Hinch also added that he wouldn’t even know how such a tax would work but knows that it would “unfair”. He added, “it would hurt poorer people,” and he believes you’ll never see the “banning of chips and pies at the footy.”

What do you think about the debate? Do you think that there should be a tax or should people take a bit more responsibility for what they eat?
