Camilla glowing at 70 in new portrait by photographer to the stars

Her entry into the Royal Family was certainly not text book, or indeed welcomed by some, but you would never have known it from the right royal bash thrown for the Duchess of Cornwall’s 70th birthday.

The private party on Saturday at Highgrove for 250 friends and family, thrown for Camilla by husband Charles, the Prince of Wales, was attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as well as Prince Harry, The Telegraph reported. The Queen and Prince Phillip were invited, The Telegraph reported, but chose to stay at home in Windsor.

On Thursday, she had enjoyed a garden party at Clarence House, where she wore a simple light-blue dress with an embellished bodice.

And Charles’ display of devotion to his second wife, whom he married in 2005, didn’t end there. The Royal Family’s Instagram account also posted a photographic portrait of the couple, that was taken by star photographer Mario Testino in May. 

In the soft-focus photograph, Camilla looks relaxed and happy, with her soft blonde hair do and natural make-up reflecting her low-key approach to style. Her blue dress coat was by British designer Fiona Clare, The Telegraph said.

As the Daily Mail recalls, Charles and Camilla first met in 1971 but their relationship didn’t last through Charles’ long stints away with the Navy, and Camilla married military man Andrew Parker Bowles instead. Charles went on to marry Diana Spencer in 1981 but within a few years he had returned to Camilla, conducting an extra-marital affair, as Princess Diana also sought comfort from officer James Hewitt.

Charles and Diana separated in 1992 and were divorced in 1996, and following Diana’s death in 1997, Camilla was gradually introduced to the public as Charles’ partner.

“The duchess was seen by some as the other woman who to some degree had always been in Charles’s life. But behind closed doors she appears to have provided the heir to the throne with the love and a normal life, away from his public role, that he has always wanted,” the newspaper said in a short biography written for Camilla’s birthday.
