Supermarkets big change for your small change

Woolies has led the charge on a whole new craze that the other supermarkets are adopting.

With reports that the five-cent piece could be removed from circulation, Woolies has rounded the prices of their goods to whole numbers. The move has also been made according to the supermarket giant to make it easier for shoppers to add up their shopping easier.

A lot of the products have been rounded down, but reports say that some have been rounded up.  Woolworths’ director of buying and merchandise Steve Donohue told The Sydney Morning Herald, “The prices are not all rounded up or rounded down, it’s about hitting the right number”.

Major competitor Coles has also jumped on the change. The only prices that won’t be rounded are ones part of a half-off deal where the 50 per cent of the price doesn’t work out to a round number. Discount supermarket Aldi has not adopted the changes at this time, but experts believe that they will be forced to as the five-cent continues to lose popularity.

What do you think?  Is it a long overdue change? Do you think the five-cent needs to be retired? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
