Ita Buttrose in the middle of a pricey controversy

Two major corporations have joined a growing group of advertisers that are leaving YouTube based on abusive or inappropriate content.

Car manufacturers Holden and Kia have pulled their advertising from the Google-owned video platform after they discovered their ads wee playing before a video from an interview on Channel Ten’s Studio 10 between “men’s rights activist” and iconic businesswoman Ita Buttrose.

The YouTube video took a very misogynistic stance on Ms Buttrose and called her names like “old hag”, “old bag”, as well as other horrible personal attacks.

A spokesperson from Holden told Fairfax Media, “We value our good relationship with Google but in line with General Motor’s global response and Holden’s diversity stance, we have instructed our media agency to temporarily suspend all advertising on YouTube until we are confident Google can protect our brand from inappropriate or offensive content”.

Kia agrees with their spokesperson saying their advertising “will remain suspended until such time as we can meet with Google to further clarify the application of this type of advertising”.

Kia and Holden join the long list of companies including Toyota, Volkswagen, and BBC.
