Are you giving up on a major discount supermarket?

Experts believe that Australians are cooling down on discount supermarket Aldi as data shows them that Woolworths is getting back market ground.

While both brands still trail Coles when it comes to consumers, it shows that the once sure-fire novelty of Aldi might be starting wear off on shoppers.

One of the major victims in this battle for the top shopping spot is IGA which according to the report from the UBS, has seen its decline accelerate.  In the report, the UBS states, “We see IGA as structurally challenged. While price positioning and differentiation aids in stemming share loss, IGA’s medium-long term outlook, in our view, is weak.”

The report shows that Aldi is keeping customers but that the rate of new shoppers has halved while the shoppers returning to Woolies has increased. While Woolies told consumers last week that electricity costs were going to force them to raise some prices, and then they secretly raised meat prices, it seems that whatever changes they are making is working.

Are you finding yourself drawn back to Woolies? Do you do a split shop over a few stores? What do you think could be stopping Aldi’s progression? We would love to see what you think in the comments below.
