Bob Hawke unleashes war of words on world leaders

Bob Hawke is never one to mince his words and the former PM certainly didn’t hold back when asked his opinion on today’s world leaders.

In an interview with Fairfax, Mr hawk said he has little faith in leaders around the world and at home to get the job done.

“I obviously don’t want to talk about myself, but the fact is that we are in a unique time, it is the first time since the Second World War when there is not one outstanding leader in the world,” he says.

“Think about it, there is not one. And to get things done you have to have capable people around.

“I don’t want to blow my own trumpet, the facts speak for themselves. There are not people around today with that sort of initiative and capacity.”

It was a harsh assessment, but is he onto something here?

The most recent Labor and Coalition governments in Australia had trouble passing a lot of legislation, while leaders in Europe and America have struggled to maintain order.

So what do you think?

Is the world is lacking in good and capable world leaders? Who do you think was the last great leader in Australia and around the world?
