Bob Hawke is never one to mince his words and the former PM certainly didn’t hold back when asked his opinion on today’s world leaders.

In an interview with Fairfax, Mr hawk said he has little faith in leaders around the world and at home to get the job done.

“I obviously don’t want to talk about myself, but the fact is that we are in a unique time, it is the first time since the Second World War when there is not one outstanding leader in the world,” he says.

“Think about it, there is not one. And to get things done you have to have capable people around.

“I don’t want to blow my own trumpet, the facts speak for themselves. There are not people around today with that sort of initiative and capacity.”

It was a harsh assessment, but is he onto something here?

The most recent Labor and Coalition governments in Australia had trouble passing a lot of legislation, while leaders in Europe and America have struggled to maintain order.

So what do you think?

Is the world is lacking in good and capable world leaders? Who do you think was the last great leader in Australia and around the world?

  1. I think the facts speak for themselves. If we had strong well learned people running our countries, we would not have all this unrest the Muslim people are causing throughout the Western world. As from the very onset if this group of people wanted to live amongst us, they would of had strong regulations and rules to live by, as most immigrants have throughout many years. Its governments that has caused all these problems, as history has shown throughout time. Now the residents of their own countries are being told they are racist, only because they are being treated by their own country as though they are the ones who are not accepting the way of life, and how to live with each other.

As migrant who adopted the Australian values I couldn’t agree more. If the
Culture in Australia didn’t suit me or my religion then I would have moved to a country where they did.

    • Cheryl Follington

You have hit the nail right on the head. So so true

I can now see why Pauline Hansen was voted in…… such ignorance is should be a criminal offence……There is no excuse for it, watch Al Jazeera news, or even follow the drum on ABC for educated opinions on the state of the world, and explanations why we are in such a mess. Nothing to do with poor refugees, or Muslims, or even the dreaded right wing Christians for that matter. Globalization and successive greedy world leaders with their crazy self serving, war encouraging, economic systems are to blame, e.g. Bush, Blair, Howard, and of course the Saudis and Israeli’s, just to name a few.

Barak Obama looks pretty good to me. Shame he won’t be around much longer

    • Jim Culbert

You must be joking. The man is an imbecile.

    • Wayne Grant

Obama is probably the worst President of the USA, the world has ever seen.

  3. well he sure aint going to leave any lib names as any good so his opinion or any politicians point of view on this is negative ,as they only look to their own for great ppl

Mr Hawke is right..Iv’e said this for awhile now…..There isn’t any strong leader anywhere .Noone to respect and get behind ….I mean who wants people like Trump and Pauline Hanson to have a say in how we live…There idiots

  5. When a country as big and important as American even entertains the idea of the likes of Donald Trump as its leader than you know the world has hit the bottom of the barrel. Bush, in my eyes, was the beginning of the slide down the slippery slope..then Obama same along with no brakes and now a choice between Clinton and Trump says it all. Who,do we turn to?? Nobody on the wagon anywhere to really respect and have confidence in. Countries going bankrupt everywhere. Wars worldwide and no real ideas or plans to stop them. The world as we know it is about to implode and I don’t see any way to stop it because man has no love or compassion in his heart for the less privileged. Caring has become a dirty word.

Global enterprising is the thing which is wrecking the whole world of humanity. Power, superiority, domination, materialism and authorities from rich countries are maddening the vulnerability of those real human beings up there.

  8. Sure he doesn’t want to blow his own trumpet. Means it’s just not in his mouth, but still causing noise from the same place it always came from.

  9. The world has finally boxed it’s self in and will be difficult extract it’s self unless very harsh measures are taken. How that happens will be difficult to explain on social media, much less putting up with the flack you will get back. The road ahead is certainly going to sort the chaff out and it won’t be kindness and love that cuts it.

There is going to be lots of blood on the streets of every Western nation in the world. China and Japan are looking good place to be and Iceland they still have got control. There is not a company in the world that has 1/2 its board in opposition. It might have worked 100 years ago every thing is moving to fast now. My Father had a saying it was a bout a bird The OOWA!!Bird it fly’s around in ever decreasing circles until it eventually it fly’s up its own bum the whole time saying OOWA OOWA !!!!!. That is where we are right now.

I really can’t judge other countries but I feel that all this political correctness is lowering our standards. We keep dropping them as those in authority are afraid to lay the truth on the line and everyone says they are being offended. Wake up Australia before it’s too late.
