Bette Midler breaks a world record

She’s the queen of social media, making us all laugh.

And she’s done it all – Broadway, singing, acting, comedy.

Now Bette Midler is adding another feather to her cap – with her Broadway return in the musical Hello, Dolly! breaking a world record for first day ticket sales.

Hello, Dolly! went on sale on the weekend in the US and sold more than $9 million at the Box Office on its first day.

The show, produced by Scott Rudin and directed by Jerry Zaks, officially opens on Broadway on April 20.

Bette will portray Dolly Gallagher Levi, a character who has been portrayed by a range of famous actresses including Barbara Streisand and Ginger Rogers.

You might be wondering how Bette reacted?

Well, she took to social media to share the news.

“OMG! “Hello Dolly” had the best first day of ticket sales in Broadway history!,” she wrote on Facebook.

“I am jumping for joy! See you onstage, bustle and all!!!”

Hello, Dolly! adds to a stellar run of Broadway shows by Scott Rudin this season, including The Glass Menagerie starring Sally Field.

The chairman and president of the Shubert Organisation say they are thrilled with the response from ticket buyers.

“The combination of this show and Bette Midler has proven irresistible to theatergoers,” they said in a statement.

The 70-year-old can now add the world record to her four Golden Globes, three Grammys, three Emmys and one Tony award.

Is there anything she can’t do?

Does this make you love Bette Midler even more? Is Hello Dolly! a show you’d love to go and see?
