Barack Obama shares adorable birthday message to his wife

In case you didn’t know, January 17 was Michelle Obama’s 53rd birthday and in celebration of that special day her husband, United States president Barack Obama, posted a gushing tribute to her on social media.

“To the girl from the South Side who took on a role she didn’t ask for and made it her own: Happy Birthday, Michelle,” he wrote alongside an adorable pic of the two on a golf cart. “I love you.”

It’s a pretty adorable post, especially after Obama delivered his final speech as president and made a point of thanking Michelle for her constant support.

“Michelle, for the past 25 years you’ve been not only my wife and mother of my children, but my best friend,” he said, making the point he became the First Lady and made the position her own, “with grace and grit and style and good humour”.

“You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody, and a new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model. You’ve made me proud. You’ve made the country proud,” the president said.

It’s just another occasion where the president has spoken lovingly about his first lady.

That image though? Well, it has been pulled from the archive and shows the couple riding in a golf cart following their first inaugural ball in Washington DC on January 20, 2009.

Have you received a touching birthday message from a loved one? How did it make you feel?
