Baby boomers coming up with creative ways to use their remains

There are plenty of options now when it comes to choosing how you're farewelled.

It appears the days of a simple burial or ashes quietly being scattered by family members are over as more people choose creative ways to have their final sendoff.

Instead of bidding farewell with the traditional methods, more baby boomers than ever are choosing alternative ways to be remembered with some pretty wild ideas gaining popularity.

Estate planning specialist and View Legal director Matthew Burgess told News Corp some people are choosing to have their ashes made into snow globes, vinyl records and even shot into the sky with fireworks.

“We average around five requests a year for snow globes,” Mr Burgess told news.com.au.

“Vinyl records is one that is becoming increasingly popular among Baby Boomers.

“On average, we have seen multiple requests each year for the last few years.

Other companies, like Heart Diamond, are specialising in turning hair and ashes into diamonds “so you can hold on to your special memories of them — forever”.

A number of other options have been popping up over the past few years with compost – so your body can give life to something new – glass ornaments with ashes suspended inside and sea burials for those who love the ocean.

While the topic of burials was once taboo, baby boomers seem to be more open than ever about the subject, with many in the Starts at 60 community saying they already what they want to happen with their body once they pass.

Have you thought much about this? What do you think of these new ideas? Crazy or cool?
