Angela Lansbury to star in sequel of classic film

Angela Lansbury will star in a sequel to Mary Poppins, which will be released on Christmas Day next year.

As you might have read before here at Starts at 60, Disney is making a sequel to the hit 1964 film Mary Poppins.

Already the cast includes Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, and Dick Van Dyke – who starred in the original.

But now Disney has confirmed another cast member and it’s got a lot of people excited on social media.

Disney has revealed on Facebook that Angela Lansbury will be joining the cast of the new film – Mary Poppins Returns.

Disney also revealed on their website production was underway and the film is set to be released on Christmas Day next year!

You might be wondering what role Lansbury will play?

Well, the 91-year-old actress will play the role of the Balloon Lady – who is apparently a much loved character created from P.L Travers’ Mary Poppins books.

Mary Poppins Returns is set 20 years after the first film, and features a new generation of Banks children.

The movie is based on The Mary Poppins Stories by Travers and it’s being reported that a new score and new songs are being written for the film.

But can anything really top the original and songs such as A Spoonful of Sugar, Step in Time, Chim Chim Cheree and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?

Well, we’ll have to wait and see what the all-star cast – which includes Meryl Streep and Colin Firth – can deliver.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to seeing the Mary Poppins sequel?
