Canada is one of the most popular tourism destinations for Australian travellers, with more than 44,000 Australians visiting the country in August 2016 alone.

If you’re planning a trip to Canada in the near future, then listen up, because you’re now going to have to pay a fee to enter the country.

Don’t get too worried, though, because it’s not going to break your travel budget. It will only set you back $7.

The new Electronic Travel Authorisation fee has to be organised before arrival and can be done online via the government website.

Don’t worry about long waiting times and difficult application forms, either, the eTA website says the process is incredibly simple and you can even apply for your authorisation pass on your way to the airport.

“Most applicants get their eTA approval (via an email) within minutes,” the website says.

Australians require the eTA approval before entering the country, and so do people from Great Britain, Germany and Spain. Actually, the only region that is exempt from the eTA process are citizens of the United States.

The country’s department of immigration have also warned people to look out for scammers who are taking advantage of people looking to apply for authorisation to enter the country.

The official government website is the only official place to lodge an application.

If you’re planning a trip to Canada soon, then be sure to take a look at the Government of Canada website to pay your fee so you can get going.
