Wildlife photography tips for travellers

1. Carry appropriate equipment

You need to carry some appropriate equipment. If you invest in a good lens, then you consider have of the world already done for you. You should use a long or a zoom lens. Most wild animals will move away before you could get close to them. Your zoom lens could be helpful in stalking the animals from quite a distance for a brilliant photo.

2. Know your subject well

Once you have the right equipment, you must make sure that you have enough knowledge about the behavioural aspects of the animals you are planning to take photographs of. You must have a fair idea of how these wild animals would be behaving. A thorough knowledge of your subject is essential and this could be instrumental in you taking a brilliant photograph. Some animals would be hyperactive and always on the move while some of them could be relaxed and not move much at all. The more you know about the animal’s behaviour, the better you will be able to take a great photo. This knowledge could help you click the perfect picture.

3. Perfect location and framing

By simply paying more attention to your framing, you can achieve better results. You must understand your location and provide an interesting context to your viewer. Let the vast ocean, mountaintops and the trees be included as they are not only nice to look at but are also used to convey a narrative for telling your story. 

4. Be patient

Patience is the key to brilliant wildlife photography. Remember that experts believe that patience is the most important virtue if you are on a wildlife safari. It is really a watching and waiting game. You should never be impatient or lose your calm if there are no animal sightings for hours. You have to learn to wait patiently for things to happen.
