What to do if you need a humidifier in your hotel room

Jun 05, 2017

If you get dry skin or are susceptible to colds, flus and the dreaded dry cough, then you’ll be very familiar with the relief a humidifier can provide. But when you go on holiday, it can be a little tricky to bring along your humidifier from home.

Luckily, there is a way to prevent dry air from ruining your holiday. And this simple trick will make sure that you get relief from dry skin and cracked lips, no matter where you are.

The first thing you’re going to have to do is request a hotel room with an air conditioner. Without this simple, but very important, piece of equipment this tip just won’t be possible.

You’re also going to need an ironing board, and while these might not always be available in your hotel room, if you make a request to hotel staff  they will generally be able to accommodate you and bring one up to your room.

If you’re let them know, in a very polite way, just how important it is to have in your room, they’ll no doubt be happy to loan it to you. Who else would use an ironing board on holiday, anyway?

The next thing you have to do is wet one of your hotel towels. Simple run it under the bathroom tap, or in the shower. Then you want to drape it over the ironing board and place the board in front of or near the air conditioner unit. This will mean an element of moisture will enter the air, stopping you from the dreaded dry skin and coughs while on holiday.

If you’re worried about the towel dripping on the floor, or around the air conditioning unit, then simply lie down another towel on the floor. And don’t worry about your excessive towel usage, your hotel provider really just wants to make sure that you’re comfortable and enjoying your stay. If you really do need the humidifier, then they’ll likely be happy to accommodate you as long as you don’t make a mess or do any damages.
