7 Reasons Spanish food is the absolute worst

Spanish food is the absolute worst. It really is. All that paella, fresh seafood and tapas gives us the false impression that we can actually recreate all that deliciously simple food at home. But you can’t. Well, not unless you’re Jamie Oliver or a Spanish abuela (grandma) with decades of experience. Take it from us, Spanish food is the absolute worst, and here’s why.

1. You know you’ll never be able to recreate a Paella quite like this at home

That iconic crusty bottom is just so difficult to replicate at home, and you’ll be wishing you could jump back on a plane to Valencia just to get another taste of it.

2. Jamon Iberico will inevitably end up in your trolley, whether you can afford it or not

You’ll be tempted to break the bank just to get another taste of these delicious slithers of meat.

3. You’ll search high and low to get your hands a good Sangria recipe

And all your bottles of red wine will magically end up mixed with sugar and pieces of fruit each and every weekend, whether you’re a high functioning alcoholic or not.

4. A morning just won’t be the same without a bocadillo

Sandwiches will never be the same unless you can find, or recreate, one of these bad boys at home. A ham and cheese toastie has never been so underwhelming.

5. Dinner parties will feel absolutely incomplete without tapas on the table

You’ll fall in love with tapas, those small portions of different foods served with drinks and often free, so much that you’ll be forced to try and recreate them at every dinner party you ever host again. Whether or not they’re a success is a different story.

6. Gazpacho will become your preferred way of eating tomatoes

You won’t be able to get through your weekly shopping without buying at least a kilogram of tomatoes to create the chilled tomato soup at home. It might be a disaster and actually end up as spaghetti sauce, but no one needs to know about that.

7. You’ll go to the beach expecting to see grilled fish being served right there in front of you

A trip to the beach won’t be the same now, knowing that in Spain the food is literally grilled right in front of you. No need to go to the restaurant or café down the road, you just wait and see what food pops up. When you realise that there are no vendors on the beach back home, you’ll really be cursing the fact that you ever travelled to Spain and ate any of their delicious food at all.
