Jun 05, 2017

It just doesn’t feel like Christmas without Bing Crosby’s smooth voice singing about how much he’s been dreaming of a white Christmas. Thankfully, there are plenty of places around the world that experience snowfall during the holiday season, and they have a whole lot of Christmas cheer to go around, too.

1. New York

So many Christmas films are set in the Big Apple, and many of us have grown up with the likes of Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life during the Christmas period, so much so that New York has just become synonymous with Christmas. It’s one of the most exciting places to be during the silly season. There is an ice skating rinks and the iconic Christmas tree in Rockefeller Square and how could we forget the sprinkling of snow to top it all off.

2. Helsinki, Finland

In Helsinki, the streets really come alive with Christmas cheer in the lead up to the holiday. There is a Christmas street, called Aleksanterinkatu, which hosts an annual event to celebrate the switching on of all the Christmas lights. The snow falls just in time for Christmas, too, and the cold weather makes it the perfect time to have a glass of traditional spiced wine called Glögi.

People in Prague don’t mess around when it comes to Christmas. You can actually find decorations popping up all over the place from as early as October. This is the place to go if you’re looking to experience a white Christmas, too, because the snow-covered castles, bridges and town squares are magical to witness in person.

4. Montreal, Canada

Not only does Montreal have the historical buildings and the snow fall, but they also have outdoor activities and events to make the most of the Christmas spirit. Expect to see fireworks, ice skating rinks and Christmas tree farms to give you some extra Christmas cheer.

5. Edinburgh, Scotland

Christmas is taken to a whole new level in Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh. There are Christmas markets, Ferris wheels, mulled wine and don’t forget the men in their kilts playing the bagpipes. You might just need your dancing shoes, too, because you’ll likely come across a traditional dance called a Ceilidh while you’re there.
