For some, cruising is an economical way to see the world, for others it’s the perfect family getaway. If your idea of cruising is more of the latter, then the latest cruise trend hitting shores around the world is for you.

Whether it’s a Harry Potter river cruise in the UK to a Star Wars adventure at sea, themed cruises are becoming all the rage for families and multigenerational groups looking to keep the young and young at heart happy while on holiday.

Here are some of the latest themed cruise adventures setting sail in 2018.

1. Cartoon Network cruise

If your grandkids are fans of shows like Jake the Dog, Powerpuff Girls or Ben 10, then a trip on the Cartoon Network-themed cruise will likely be a hit for your family. The ship, Cartoon Network Wave, has gone through a complete colourful transformation and will include 11 decks, a Jonny Bravo burger bar and will accommodate 2,000 people.

If you’d like to cruise to a galaxy far, far away then this is the next best thing. Disney Cruise Line revealed they’re extending their popular Star Wars at Sea cruise all the way through to 2019. Guests can expect themed dinners, character meet and greets, trivia nights and even Jedi training shows for those who have a strong sense of the force within.

3. Superhero cruise

If you’re a lover of Marvel comics, then the Marvel Day at Sea by Disney is sure to get you excited. Entertainment includes special food, deck shows, merchandise and the largest collection of Marvel characters ever assembled on a cruise ship!

4. The Harry Potter river cruise

For muggles eagerly awaiting a letter from Hogwarts, this will get you a little close to your wizard dreams. A six-day Harry Potter cruise through the UK will allow fans the opportunity to visit Harry Potter filming locations including 4 Privet Drive and the Great Hall.
