Popular clothing store Zara is selling T-shirts inspired by the military with fake medals similar to those worn by army veterans.
The khaki long-sleeved T-shirts have two pockets on the front, with badges, embroidered tags and a hanging medal on display.
The shirt is reminiscent of the colours, badges and medals awarded to army personal and returned veterans.
It’s not the first time Zara has made military-themed items, with the label previously promoting similar jackets for both men and women.
While Australian military shirts feature the names of personnel, this T-shirt bares the words ‘Trends Hunter’ instead.
Underneath is a gold broach and a medal similar to the Australian Operational and Service Medal awarded to those who “have been deployed or force assigned for duty as a member of a declared operation”, according to the Department of Defence website.
A close up of the medal reveals the words “Follow your dreams”, in place of the words on the real military medal that read “Defending Australia and its national interests”.
It’s not the first time retail stores in Australia have been caught up in an issue like this.
In 2015, Target was forced to remove a line of clothing and accessories for using the words ‘ANZAC’ and ‘Camp Gallipoli’ on 26 products.
