A hospital initiative that could make a difference to patient lives…

Hospitals aren’t typically an upbeat kind of place, in fact some of them are rather grim.

But, a hospital in France is planning on changing all that and in a bid to “re-humanise” they are including a wine bar in their next upgrade.

According to News.com.au, Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital in central France will open up a wine bar next month in a way for patients (health permitting) and their families and friends to relax and take the stress away from being in hospital.

So far, this is the only hospital known to us in the world that features such a place, and it is being built in the palliative care centre.

New.com.au reported that head of the centre, Virginie Guastella said the purpose is to “cheer up the difficult day-to-day existence of patients.”

She also added that the bar would give families who are facing difficult times the opportunity to “create moments of conviviality” despite being in a hospital environment.

The bar will stock wine, beer, champagne and whisky and personally, I think it is a great idea.

It allows people in suffering to still experience normal elements of life, like something as small as going out for a drink with family and friends.

But what do you think? Should more hospitals do this? Do you think it would improve the quality of life people permanently in hospital have? Share your thoughts in the comments below…
