This new chat, video chat and messaging service will change the world

Google did something courageous and rather wonderful this week.  It released Google Hangouts as a standalone app for android, iOS and the web, bringing a far superior service than Skype into our hands ready for us to communicate anytime anywhere for free.  I suggest you try it… its awesome.  The real benefit is you can easily video chat with up to 10 people in the one conversation, with good reception, and at the same time you can share screens, or show slides.  Then, when you are finished chatting you can flip to ordinary “chat” mode, keeping conversations going all the time.  

The release of Hangouts as an app brings a capability that was only available if you used Google Plus to the mainstream, and overcomes a lot of the challenges we all have with Skype, text messaging and instant messenger not working together…

It is an incredibly easy to use, gold standard video messaging system where you have up to 10 people in a chat, or doing fun things with you online, by sharing your screen, watching a video or even playing a game.

I often try chatting with my brother who lives in the US, with both of us giving up on the video component, and using the voice elements only.  Skype breaks down inconsistently, and the images travel slowly… Google Hangouts worked smoothly when we tried them, every time! And it has the ability to have the whole family chat, from all corners of the world we live in.

The company launched the standalone Google Hangouts App on Wednesday, making it possible to hangout on mobile, PC, Mac, ipad and heck, anything really, vaulting it to the forefront of the chat world…

Because you can use Google hangouts on any device, you can flip from messaging your family, to chatting by video at the flick of a button, and what I love is the seamless involvement of up to 10 people.
