What can I do to make my tired eyes look brighter?

Janet Duncan

Janet I am so glad you asked this question! I think many of us can relate to looking tired and would love to know some quick fixes to revitalise the eye area!

First of all take a look at your lifestyle. Is it healthy? Are you getting adequate sleep, exercising regularly and eating well? Your lifestyle will show up in your face, so do your best to take care of yourself. Make sure you drink a lot of water and take time for yourself so that you can relax.

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

When it comes to applying your makeup make sure your eye area is well moisturised. Moisturised skin always looks younger and fresher than dry skin.

Even out your skin tone

Apply your foundation where you need it most to even out the skin tone. Use a light reflective concealer sparingly around the eye area. Don’t be tempted to try and cover dark circles with lots of concealer as it will only make them look worse and draw attention to them. Skip the powder – it will make you look tired.

Use blush

Don’t forget a pinky/peachy blush will give your complexion a healthy glow. Blush is instantly brightening for the complexion and will make your eyes bright.

Make the whites of your eyes clear and white! Have you ever tried liquid chlorophyll? It can really brighten the whites of your eyes! You could also try eye drops to reduce redness.

Avoid any makeup with a red undertone as it will immediately make eyes look sore and tired. Another way to minimise the redness of your eyes is to line the inner rims of the eyes with a beige pencil, which covers up redness.

Draw attention to the upper eyes

Apply eyeliner to the base of your top lashes to really make your eyes appear wide and your lashes lush. Use an eyelash curler to curl your lashes to open up your eyes, then apply mascara. Just use a light wash of neutral eye shadow and don’t forget to highlight the brow bone to really open up and brighten your eyes. Define your brows as normal.

Don’t apply any eyeliner or mascara to your lower lashes as it will highlight any dark circles that you may have and make them look worse.

Choose your outfit carefully

Wear a colour close to your face that you know flatters you well. By doing this you will look instantly refreshed and it will make your eyes sparkle.

Don’t forget the earrings!

I like to wear some earrings with a coloured stone that matches my eye colour. It really makes your eyes sparkle and look prettier!

Janet I hope this has been a help!
