Warmer weather is on its way and with it comes the age old question – what should I wear?

As we get older we tend to think our wardrobe choices are limited, particularly in warm weather when more people show more skin.

But that thinking isn’t necessarily the case.

In fact, there are plenty of fashion choices to keep you stylish, cool and comfortable this summer.

Here are some of the best hot weather fashions for over-60s.

They’re versatile, flowing and funky, which makes sarongs a perfect addition to your wardrobe for the warmer weather. With a bit of imagination, you can turn your sarong into just about any outfit including a skirt, shoulder dress, harem pants or a comfortable strapless dress. Sarongs are perfect for just about every situation – from relaxing at home to heading to the beach or having a casual lunch with friends. And the best bit is they can come in a huge variety of colours, patterns and fabrics.

Just like sarongs, jumpsuits are a super versatile outfit for warmer weather. Not only are they light weight, they come in a range of styles, colours, patterns and fabrics. If you want to show a little skin, try a shorter jumpsuit with short sleeves and legs above the knee. Or if you’d rather cover up, you can opt for a pair that are longer in the legs and arms. Style them up a nice pair of sunglasses and some nice sandals or open-toed shoes.

Long, flowing tops/blouses

Opt for a longer, flowing top or blouse and match it with a pair of jeans or leggings. This is a perfect match regardless of your size. Since the weather is warm, opt for some summery prints and light weight fabrics for an easy, breezy and comfortable look.

  1. Ah, jumpsuits! I well remember them from my 20’s – I made 3 or 4 in a variety of materials, and wore them with pride, especially to parties. Unfortunately, I also drank beer in those days, which had something of a diuretic effect on me, and with jumpsuits you had to take the whole thing off to answer a call of nature. I well remember one freezing cold Melbourne winter night, where the party venue had an outside loo – not nice! I think longer, flowing tops and pull-on pants are a better bet for me these days, as alcohol and a jumpsuit figure are no longer a part of my life!

    • I agree well and truly. I can’t even risk wearing tops and pull-on pants. Once I am in the toilet I haven’t time to haul down any extra clothing before I start ‘going’. it’s a darned nuisance but one of the joys of advancing age. I wish they would manufacture more summer dresses. There are so many nice tops available which, if a bit longer, would make perfect summer dresses.
