The First Lady of the United States has definitely shown over the 8 years at the White House that she has a great sense of style. As the Obamas welcomed Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife at the final state dinner they would host, Michelle Obama lived up to the promise made by her husband Barack – they’d “saved the best for last”.

With poker-straight locks, Michelle dazzled in her stunning custom-made Atelier Versace dress, which was a stunning floor-length rose gold chainmail gown. The Obamas greeted Matteo and his wife Agnese Landini – who also sparkled in a floor length, silver and grey gown on the North Portico before accompanying them inside the White House for the final state dinner.

The couple looked great together, with President Obama looking dashing in a tux, but he couldn’t keep his eyes off his gorgeous wife.

The president paid tribute to America’s relationship with Italy during the dinner, offering a toast to the “enduring alliance” between the two countries.

He said that American democracy has been graced by a touch of Italy, noting that both the Lincoln Memorial and the interior of the U.S. Capitol dome were done by Italians.

After the ornate arrival ceremony for Matteo and his wife, the two leaders met in the Oval Office. They will participate in a joint news conference at midday. The state dinner in the evening will take place on the South Lawn.
