Slow cooker cola beef 49

View Profile

A well-known if controversial dish, as some people don’t like using soft drinks in cooking. You may prefer to use a low-sugar cola – it’s totally up to you as both work – or to use steak or diced beef, or even other red meats. Keep in mind the volume of cola in each actual serve will be minimal.

Serves 6–8

Preparation: 5 mins

Cook: 8 hours

  • 1.5–2 kg roasting beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 375 ml (1½ cups) cola soft drink, or diet cola
  • 40g French onion soup mix, dry
  • 420g tinned condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 tablespoon cornflour (cornstarch), to thicken
  • Vegetables, to serve

  1. Put the beef in a slow cooker. Scatter over the onion.
  2. Put the cola, soup mix and mushroom soup in a medium bowl and combine.
  3. Pour the mixture over the beef in the slow cooker.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours.
  5. Remove the beef and set aside. If the sauce needs thickening, combine the cornflour with a little water and add to the sauce in the slow cooker. Stir until the sauce thickens.
  6. Carve the beef and serve with the sauce and vegetables of your choice.

  1. I can’t believe that with the information now available, you’re posting a recipe that contains cola or suggesting diet cola as a good alternative! I know this isn’t a health website but maybe post recipes made from fresh ingredients as they will help over sixties follow a healthy lifestyle. Also, have you read the list of ingredients in the packet and tinned soup?

    • Come on this is ridiculous. People put recipes on for us to try. Please don’t complain about what they are made out of. I am getting fed up with health conscious people. How many recipes do you see with cream or coconut cream in them. A lot of times that makes the dish

    • Totally agree Wendy, we all know what we can & can’t eat, nothing wrong with something naughty now & then, everything in moderation, if you don’t like a recipe don’t take any notice of it, why make a big deal out of it.

    • Nothing wrong with cream or coconut cream as these are healthy fats that have helped me lose weight and keep my sugar levels down. Check out all the latest research.

    • Just don’t visit the website if you don’t like them. Not everyone likes everything because we don’t have to. Simple

    • I’m celiac and 71 years old and also fed up with knockers like June. Strum your own guitar love and leave the rest of us who happen to have a brain use it to make their own decisions instead of you trying to force yours down our throats. Thank you.

    • I never drink soft drink of any type but have made a chocolate cake with coke and always have some left over so will try this recipe with what is left

    • OMG…winge winge winge….if you don’t like it don’t eat it if reading it offends you then don’t read it either….not everyone is as perfect as you and only eats good stuff….believe it or not most of us have some imperfections!!!!

    • In the past 9 months I have lost two close relatives aged 65 and 60 and my best friend aged 62, to cancer. I am also seeing friends and family being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, crippling arthritis etc then suffering severe side effects from their medications for which they’re given more scripts. They do not live on junk food. My doctor does nutritional medicine and I’ve been told research is showing that diet plays a huge role in good health. It’s because iI’ve lost so many loved ones and watching the pain and suffering of others that I wrote what I did.

    • If you don`t want to use Cola that is up to you.. but don`t try and tell me what to use..!!

  2. This sounds yummy. Also easy to make. Will give it a try. Also I love all the recipes on this page

  3. Could be the same as cooking with beer. Sugar content in that as well. Also as I said I love the recipes. I don’t hear you complaining about the dessert dishes

  4. So beef is OK, but cola is controversial! What a strange world we live in! How about using beans or lentils?

  5. Have been told French onion soup mixed with coke to cook a roast beef in a camp oven is yum

  6. Before everyone gets on their high horses over this recipe , We all know what is good for us and therefore don’t have to eat it if we don’t like the ingredients. Its a choice people, there is approx 10 tsp sugar to a can of cola divide that by 8 serving sizes and its not too bad. Your choice .
