Redskin milkshakes

Redskins are the lolly of our youth…do you remember going down to the corner store and picking up a bag for 5c? We used to come home with red all over our mouths and were told off by our parents…but how could we resist? They were so delicious. Our children don’t seem to know the yumminess of these treats, so why not show them with this awesome redskin milkshake recipe?

Ingredients

  • 10 redskins
  • 1 cup of milk
  • Ice cream to taste
  • Milk to taste

Method

  1. Place the redskins and cup of milk in a saucepan and place over low heat.
  2. Cook, stirring constantly until the redskins have melted and the milk curds have separated – it will look like weird red fluff on top of the liquid. Remove from the heat and strain into a clean container.
  3. Discard the solids.  When ready to serve add the redskin liquid and about 1 scoop of ice cream per serve to a blender.
  4. Add milk slowly and blend. Taste continuously adding milk to taste.

I’ve deliberately left this quite open as it depends entirely on how strong or mild you want the redskin flavour to be. With the 1 cup of redskin concentrate you should have at least 3 serves.
