Poached eggs are a breakfast staple but they often stump even the most seasoned of cooks. If you’re like me, you always end up making a mess. Here is the most useful and amazing kitchen trick we have found….

How to poach an egg in the microwave:

  1. Grab a mug and wet the inside with a bit of water
  2. Dampen some paper towel (a good sized wad)
  3. Break an egg into the mug and add a tiny bit of vinegar
  4. Put the dampened paper towel over the top of the mug
  5. Microwave on high for about 1.5 minutes

You can always put it back in if it’s not cooked! Just pour out and onto your bread or plate…..voila!

    • I have a microwave egg poacher that does 2 eggs at once. I always put them in for a minute and then check them. If I think they need a bit more I put them back in for 10 seconds at a time until they are right. Usually 1m 30s. I use big eggs. You may have to experiment with time because of egg size and also whether you like runny yolks or firm yolks.

  2. I’m a bit worried. First we have to get violent and “grab” a mug. And then we tip the contents of the violated mug out and find we have a viola.

Actually I have them witout the toast. Better for my diet. B|

    • Yes you have to fiddle with times depending on size of egg and how you like your yolks. I always cook for 1m first and then check and if it needs a bit more I cook in 10s increments. I like my yolks runny also.
