Tributes flow for The Sound of Music star

You might remember the famous song from The Sound of Music, I Am Sixteen Going on Seventeen.

Well there is very sad news today.

The actress who sung that song, and played Liesl von Trapp, has died.

Charmian Carr has passed away after a battle wth dementia at age 73, her website has confirmed.

Her best known role is playing the eldest Von Trapp daughter in 1965 film.

She was just 21 when she starred in the film.

Tributes are flowing for the star on social media, who is survived by her two daughters and four grandchildren.

20th Century Fox wrote a tribute to Charmian on Twitter.

“The Sound of Music lost a beloved member of the family w/ the passing of Charmian Carr. She will be forever missed,” they wrote.

Actor Seth MacFarlane also posted on his Twitter.

“So very saddened to hear of the death of Charmian Carr. She leaves behind one of the most memorable performances in movie history.”

On Charmian’s website, a simple by poignant notice was posted announcing her death.

“My name is Steve Hughes, and my company has been managing Charmian Carr’s website for many, many years. Me and my family are so sad to have to post this message and will miss her dearly…

“We had the gracious opportunity to stay at Charmian Carr’s house several times while we worked on different projects for her. And we traveled to New York with her on another occasion. She was such a nice, cheerful person.”

After leaving show business, Charmian reportedly became an interior designer with celebrities including Michael Jackson among her clients.
