The Trumps are making news for saying something controversial yet again.

But before you start on presidential candidate Donald Trump, it’s actually his son causing fury on social media.

Donald Trump Jr took to Twitter to express his views about refugees comparing them to Skittles, yes Skittles – the candy.

You might be wondering  how he found a comparison between them?

Well, he shared a Trump campaign poster with the slogan:

“If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful? That’s our Syrian refugee problem.”

He then captioned the photo saying the image “says it all”.

“Let’s end the politically correct agenda that doesn’t put America first,” he wrote.

So, what are the people slamming him on social media saying?

Some Twitter users have posted photos from the Syrian civil war with the caption “Skittles”, while the word Skittles was trending on Twitter.

President Barack Obama’s former speech writer was also scathing of Trump Jr.

“Hey @DonaldJTrumpJr, this is one of the millions of children you compared to a poisoned Skittle today,” he wrote.

So what about the company that makes Skittles?

Well, they’ve slammed Trump Jr too.

A spokeswoman for Wrigley told the Guardian his analogy was inappropriate.

“Skittles are candy. Refugees are people. We don’t feel it is an appropriate analogy,” she said.

“We will respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing.”

To make matters worse, Donald Trump Jr has been accused of copying the slogan from someone else.

Former Congressman Joe Walsh shared a tweet he wrote in August with the exact slogan.

“Hey @DonaldTrumpJr, that’s the point I made last month. Glad you agree,” he wrote.

What do you think? Does Donald Trump Jr have a point? Or is his analogy wrong?

  1. If one Trump acts like an idiot and then their offspring do as well – if America then elects them as their Leader – Does that make ALL Americans idiots?
I’m just gobsmacked that the Republican Party put him up in the first place.
I know that the Clinton’s are just as bad – but this whole choice reflects very poorly on America’s worldview.

    • It won’t have to be “America” that elects him, only a complicated majority of those who vote and tvoting isn’t compulsory in the usa. “The Clinton’s” (sic) aren’t standing for president and Hillary Clinton is far from perfect, but at least seems to have a brain that works, unlike the trumpet.

  2. Coming from a trophy hunter who boasts triumphantly about his role in helping to wipe out wildlife, this is no surprise.

CHILDREN ARE NOT DISPENSIBLE you disgusting little creep. These children did not choose to be caught up in a war where neither side gives a damn whether they live or die. ISIS doesn’t care who they kill as long as it’s someone and the president of Syria – who is supposed to be caring for his people – just wants to kill anyone (including ISIS) who is in the way – as long as he and his are not harmed. I doubt this war will end until there is literally nothing left of the country and then it will spread further.

Yes, the refugee problem is immense and yes, one has to be careful who comes into our country – after all, you wouldn’t allow a stranger to just walk in off the street without asking who he or she is, would you. Well, perhaps the Greens would, but children? They deserve every protection we can give them.

    • I agree with your heartfelt post and totally agree, but as a Greens supporter although not a member of the party, I take issue with the snide question towards the end of your post. When have the Greens suggested everyone who wants to should be let into Australia without checking who they are? Never, that’s how often

  3. can we really be surprised?? the apple doesn,t fall far from the tree, for darn sure, wretched evil family republicans have always been red necks but this time beggars belief.

  4. You don’t have to be a lover of other cultures to be revolted by the things that come from that Trump family. Negativity is a word that comes to mind. To be so emersed in negativity thinking it makes me feel weak.
