The Duchess of Cambridge has released a rare video message, in support of children’s mental health. Catherine has become the official

The Duchess of Cambridge has released a rare video message, in support of children’s mental health. Catherine has become the official patron of Place2Be, a school program which focuses on building children’s resilience.

“Every child deserves to grow up knowing their potential, and feeling confident that they won’t fall at the first hurdle”, Catherine says in the video. “This resilience, our ability to deal with stressful situations, is something we begin to learn in childhood”.

In the video, Catherine laughs along with some primary school students, and discusses how Place2Be has helped each of them feel more confident. Place2Be provides emotional support, counselling, art classes and practical lessons for young children.

“Whilst we cannot always change a child’s circumstances, we can give them the tools to cope and thrive”, Catherine explains. “William and I feel that every child deserves to be supported throughout difficult times in their lives”.

“Through my work in areas like addiction, I have seen that the roots of poor mental health in adulthood frequently stem from unresolved childhood issues. This needs to change”, Catherine adds. “A child who has overcome challenges with proper emotional support will emerge stronger”.

Isn’t it lovely to see Catherine making a rare public address? Would you like to hear more from the Duchess of Cambridge? Are you happy to see her championing such a worthy cause?

  1. Lyn Mottrom

I think she is wonderful and would love it if she and William were the next King and Queen

    • Joan Rowe

Charles won’t be there as long as the queen has been. William can wait his turn.

  2. Ian Campbell

Who cares, i would rather an Australian as head of state, wouldn’t you Lyn.?

  3. Joan Rowe

I like this girl. She has poise, charm and common sense,.And she is obviously observant and compassionate.and understands something of mental health.
“I have seen that the roots of poor mental health in adulthood frequently stem from unresolved childhood issues.”
In Aus, (I don’t know about other countries) there is a whole generation (how far does a generation extend) of 35 to 55 who NEVER got the sort of support or treatment they needed to grow up mentally well, my daughter is one of them .No matter how many doctors I sought out they all said the same thing “She will grow out of it” simply because they did not listen to what I was saying, or they did not know what to do about it and refused to pass the problem on to someone who might have known what to do.
When a child does not laugh, or smile much, or get excited over their birthday or Christmas , there has to be something wrong. And when the Psychiatric Specialists are not interested in childhood behaviour so they can make a complete diagnosis, there has to be something wrong with their thinking.
Doctors like to delve into family history for diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc, but not mental health?
Maybe she can turn the tide for people whose mental health is so mild it gets ignored until it explodes outwards and they have detrimental meltdowns.
Most homeless people are those like my daughter, look normal on the outside but breaking their hearts inside because they don’t recognise they are different and can be helped because the help they were given was the wrong sort.

  4. Judy Thomas

I think it’s wonderful with what she is doing, helping the children in mental health issues.

  5. Jill Newby

Couldn’t care less what she has to say .
Means nothing in my life !

    • Rosanna Taylor

bit insulting to the charities in question …what would a woman like her know of such an important issue …just another bimbo who stalked a rich man …

    • Jill Newby

Hence my response . She lives in a world so far removed from the majority . It’s a joke really !

    • Jill Newby

But then thinking about it Victoria , money and status don’t exclude the human condition .

    • Rosanna Taylor

perhaps Katie can ask Betty why she locked up Katherine & Nerrisa Bowes Lyon …her own cousins a mental home…no visits or any acknowledgements …Burkes Peerage was adjusted to show an earlier death for one of them about 40 years …royal family are truely evil hippocrites….

  6. Sandi Leo

What a wonderful supportive program to have operating in a school. Of course there are elite schools that have full-time counsellors for their students, but to be able to have a program like this for every child would be an amazing benefit. After 19 years in the education system I witnessed many children who would have benefitted from something like this, particularly children coping with bereavement, those looking at an untimely death (themselves) and even everyday issues of bullying and so on. If only ……….

  7. Debbie Bryant

Wonderful to see her using her high profile to highlight the serious problem of child mental health.
