Social media has gone into a spin after Rupert Murdoch used his Twitter to voice his opinions about Muslims. He told his 500,000 followers that “Maybe most Moslems peaceful, but until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible”.

Since the tweet went viral, many have weighed in on the issue, included Australian comedian Adam Hills, who tweeted this to Murdoch: “Maybe all Australians lovely but until we recognise and destroy the growing pus sore that is we must be held accountable”.

Adam’s tweet has since been retweeted over 2,000 times and is still gaining momentum as the public show distaste for Murdoch’s insensitive comments that imply all Muslims should be taking to task for the actions of extremists.

The tweet comes just days after shootings in the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo shocked the world.

Even Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling condemned the media mogul’s tweet, writing on her own account, “I was born Christian. If that makes Rupert Murdoch my responsibility, I’ll auto-excommunicate”.

Murdoch still remains blissfully unaware of the storm he has caused and has said that there is “Big jihadist danger looming everywhere from Philippines to Africa to Europe to US” and “Political correctness makes for denial and hypocrisy”.

So what do you think? Was he right to broadcast his comments about Muslims? Or was he completely out of line? Tell us below.

    • Get over it. The muslims do nothing for Australia or the world, except create chaos. If they can rant their hate speeches, why not some cold hard facts on the subject !

  2. Rupert Murdoch is absolutely right! We still have free speech in the Western world(but for how much longer) he has every right to express an opinion…apparently the intelligentsia think otherwise, but approve of the journalists on Charlie Hebdo, who were tragically gunned down. It would be interesting to see (and I pray it doesn’t happen) if the Murdoch papers came under fire, if they would be lauded for free speech. Ironically, the Murdoch press did print a cartoon, although I didn’t see it. Nothing from the hypocritical Fairfax press, the Guardian etc! A lot of appeasing hypocrites!

    • Well put Lee, I agree with you, and I don’t particularly like the man either, but he is entitled to have his say. People don’t have to take any notice of him if they don’t want to.

  3. I do not understand the problem just because we in Australia can’t speak the truth doesnt mean he (as an american)

  4. He is a disgusting man who uses his wealth to control what he wants…he controls the australian media

    • Shane I agree with you and I am not surprised at the leanings toward intolerance shown in this comments page. It has been said for a while that Aussies are racist, like the person taking blood from me who complained that the country was overrun by Muslims and when I mentioned that they make up 2% of the population claimed they were all in her backyard. One example too many. I agree with J K Rowling.
