Whether you agreed with her or not, Sonia Kruger certainly got Australia talking last week.

The TV host made headlines for her comments on the Today show, where she said she supported a ban on Muslim migration to Australia.

Appearing on the morning show’s regular Mixed Grill segment, Sonia said she she believes there is a direct link to Muslim immigration and terrorist attacks.

“… There is a correlation between the number of people who are Muslim in a country and the number of terrorist attacks,” she said.

“I have a lot of very good friends who are Muslim, who are peace-loving, who are beautiful, but there are fanatics.

“I would like to see it stopped now for Australia because I want to feel safe, as all our citizens do, when they go out to celebrate Australia Day and I’d like to see freedom of speech as well.”

Her comments were met with disbelief by her co-panelist David Campbell and Today show host Lisa Wilkinson.

It was nothing compared to the backlash she received online though, with thousands of people calling for her to be axed.

Now though, Nine says it is standing by Sonia and will continue to support her as a presenter across the network.

Nine CEO Hugh Marks has said the controversy drummed up by her comments is all part of a healthy debate and that he sees no need to stifle it.

“Free-to-air television is a really broad church,” he said.

“As an audience member you can form your own view one way or another. It is not up to us (Nine) to shake our fingers. It is for us to provide that broadbased commentary.”

What do you think about Nine’s decision?

Should Sonia be more careful about what she says on TV? Or is she right to speak her mind?

  1. Bev Jose

Of course nine should stand by Sonia Kruger so should all Australians not for her comments whether you agree or not but her RIGHT to say it. Last time I looked Australia’s have the right to free speech am I right or wrong you tell me?

    • J Harrison

Bloody Oath Behind Her 1000%. !

    • Barb McCulloch

If Australians are stopped from saying what they believe in then we are in great trouble. I agree with Sonia and the Muslims and now all Sudanese HAVE to be screened more carefully.

    • Kay baker

You are right, she was asked a question, better still put on the spot by Lisa wilkinson(who thinks she is right in every way she thinks) and she answered straight away, honest and forthright. She did not show any racism, she just spoke as a mother would, thinking of the future, she was born in a free country and wishes to keep it like that, she has the right to think like that.

      • Marcia Wood

I agree with what you say Kay baker. I think Lisa Wilkinson put her on the spot. People must never lose sight of the fact that we are truly lucky that we live in a country where we can speak freely without being jailed or shot!! I think many people forget how fortunate we are in Australia and even take our freedoms for granted, Lisa included.

      • Esther Scholten

So others can speak their mind but Sonia Kruger, is in effect, to be gagged. Is that what democracy is supposed to mean. Pardon my ignorance but I thought you were supposed to be entitled to an opinion and others are entitled to either agree or disagree. You are on a very slippery slope if Sonia Kruger is not permitted to voice her opinion. So does that mean that Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson should monitor their opinions too?

        • Helen Miller

I totally agree, free speech for all…….

        • Not a public opinion it would seem. The leftist view of us rednecks does not match with this lovely young attractive intelligent public peraonailty pft

    • Rosemary

      Well said. Exactly my sentiments.

    • Dianne

Well said Bev Jose. Free speech is a wonderful right that we still have in Australia!

    • Joan bickell

I think what Sonia said was what many of us were thinking. These remarks came the day after the second attack on France we were all feeling emotional and saddened. There has got to be a way to make our beautiful country safe again. I believe Channel 9 has done the right thing and have stood by her.

    • Karen

I will boycott nine if Sonia goes it’s called freedom of speech for all last time I looked we lived in the lucky country !!

    • Jean Kiem.

I agree with you, Bev…..Australians do and SHOULD have the right to vent their views.
      It’s the Aussie way ! …..

      • Marguerite

well done channel nine .. the media beat up on us far too often ..long live our right to free speech …better to have an opinion than not …does not mean you are a
        racist !!!!!

    • Good on Sonia. Yes Channel 9 should stand by her. Sonia is worried for her children, like all of us. I wonder what sort of country my grandkids are going to grow up in. If the Muslim clerics come out on national TV and condemned what the radical Muslims have done, and if those clerics didn’t invite the radical Imans to come and preach hatred of their fellow man, THEN MAYBE we wouldn’t have so much distrust and hatred in this wonderful country!!
Sonia was asked her opinion, and she gave it. There is free speech in this country!!

    • Michael Heffernan

I salute channel 9 on their decision SONYA should be able to say what a lot of us think, ps I have a JORDANIAN daughter in law and is MUSLIN and JORDAN IS FIGHTING ALONGSIDE OUR TROOPS AND JORDAN IS A MUSLIN COUNTRY. Majority of MUSLINS are lovely human beings it’s the minority’s radicals that are the problem

      • I think that was Sonia said is the feeling that we all have, fear. for what has happen in other Countries, but doesn’t mean it in a bad way, is not like Pauline Hansen say it. I have worked for years with Muslin people and they are nice and normal people. we can’t put them I’m in the same bag.

    • Karla Sawtell

I think she should be applauded for saying what a lot of other people are thinking and Sonia good on you

    • Ken Bottrell

Its bloody Australia, we are allowed to have an opinion.

    • Patricia Champion

What happened to Freedom of speech. A lot of Australians would agree with her. I for one do.

    • James Rimmer

I may be wrong but, No, you don’t have the right of free speech, it originally was included in the Australian constitution by the guy who compiled it, but while he was away in England studying other country’s constitutions for more data to add to the final document, the Government of the day grabbed it and eliminated the parts they didn’t like, including the right to free speech, and then past what was left by Parliament?.

    • J.Loehr

I agree Bev Jose she and all of us have the right to our opinion

    • Sonia was expressing her feelings. Surely we all have that right. There would be people watching the program who would agree with her and obviously those who don’t. She wasn’t speaking for the whole of Australia, she was speaking for herself. Let’s keep focus folks. We are all allowed an opinion.

    • Yvonne Mayall

Australians do have the right to voice their opinion. It doesn’t matter who you are. We do have “Freedom of Speech”. Luckily, she is a Television Presenter & was able to air her view, publicly. Thank you, Sonia.

    • F.Hudson

We suppose to be a democracy, therefore the right to free speech.

    • PJC

You are so right. Freedom of speech is an important right in a democracy. We must all embrace it.

    • Hugh Marshall

With you Bev, high time someone stood up to this Muslim threat

    • Krysta

      Well say!!
good on channel 9 for sticking by her we live in a free country what we when to war for!! democracy and free speech, why should anyone be punished to say how they feel on the situation it is a very scary one!

    • Joi knight

Of course Sonia has the right to speak as everyone has, good on you Sonia

    • Kitkat

Well said! Everyone has their own opinion and we live in a country where we have freedom of speech. You may or may not agree with what Sonia said but she should be allowed to voice her opinion.

    • Yvonne White

Sonia has every right to speak her mind just like all of us have freedom of speech.
      Many thousand agree with Sonia.

    • B. Foran

Agree. She said what many think and regardless she has the right to her opinion. Australia is ALMOST still a democracy.

    • Lyn

I agree entirely, support her for freedom on speech, something we appear to be loosing in this country!
Mostly driven by fear of repercussions. I’m over political correctness. Good on you Sonya for saying what you feel!

    • Billy

How about those who opposed Sonia’s views live on 9.
David and Lisa seem to support the Islamic invasion and the importation of terrorists by stealth.
How come they aren’t getting reamed ?!
They laid there cards on the table too.

    • Clarr

Absolutely correct freedom of speech that’s why we live in this country. Doesn’t matter if you are with her or not! People have a right to there opinion

    • Stacey Best

You are absolutely right Bev Jose

    • Alan

Well said. Stop this political correctness which is preventing free speech. Don’t forget our brave soldiers died for this right.

    • Graham Turner

I agree with Sonja and who cares what Lisa Wilkinson or David Campbell think. Good on Ch9 for sticking up for Sonja. She has only stated what many Australians are thinking. I’m sure many high profile people think the same but are not game enough to speak aloud for fear of some retribution.

    • W Tarkka

I agree, peoples opinions are being stifled because of the very same thing that happened with Sonja. She was asked for a personal opinion and we all know the outcome of that…what’s happening to freedom of speech in this country of ours….this is just the beginning

    • Barry

If anyone should be sacked it should be Campbell and Wilkinson

    • Judith Osborn

Yes totally agree it is our right to have freedom of speech. Sonia’s comments were simply exercising that right. To anyone who disagrees with her views……..fair enough…..but that still is just an opinion exactly the same as Sonia’s . There is no right or wrong.
Unless it comes to unlawfulness ……..and that is where the problem lies

    • leona

I agree that people are entitled to their personal opinions and their fredom of speech. But not in their place of employment, using your position on national television to highlight her personal views. We dont want to hear your personal views. Theres a time and place for that not on national television.

    • Michelle

Good for Sonia, I totally agree with her. It’s not being racist, it’s about the fact that all the terrorists lately are Muslim and Islam is creeping in everywhere & we are sick of being bombarded with halal certification fees on everything and Our animals being slaughtered inhumanely because of this barbaric religious belief, 2 name only 2 things.
No more refugees until we have housed our own homeless men, women and children. Charity starts at home people.
Maybe the government should start asking why doesn’t the UAE take these people in?? Put pressure on them, it makes far more sense to relocate them there.

    • Charmaine Turnet

Sonia has every right to voice her opinion. It’s what I believe in as well. Look what has happened in Europe recently with Merkel allowing Muslims to migrate through all other countries to get to Germany. The Isil have attacked France, raped woe. New Year’s Eve, Sweden yet to find out about the recent bomb I. A block of units, Germany itself, England. Office worker going home to wife and family shot dead outside a Police Station in our own Country. The Lindt Cafe murders, planes being bombed and going missing. All for Religion I do t think so. Out Army personnel having to fight overseas some never to come home. Look what the asylum seekers in our camps do burn it down . They have air conditioning cigarettes supplied food water bed roof overe their heads. A lot of Australians dont have that, they live on our streets hoping to get atleast one decent meal through the good volunteers who give up their time to go out at night to help these poor people. I say give these people housing first.

    • DL

I agree, Freedom of Speech, and many Australians actually supported her on her stance on the matter. To silence someone because of their views is communism in practice.

    • Lyn Harper

She has every right to say what she wants she has her opinion

  2. yvonne stengel

everybody should have a right to their opinion not all of us have the same opinion i say good on you sonia kruger

    • Pat

Onya Sonya stick to your guns 😀👍🏻

    • Frank

Good on you sonia.i applaude you. Like the great majority of us true aussies.that would like to think that we and our children will be safe to walk the streets day or night. If only our politicians could pull their finger out of their rectom and grow some b…..s.i.d lik to see that.

    • Pan Crosby

Well said! I agree. What we need is discussion and these comments evoke discussion.

  3. Maya

Absolutely disgraceful she should be sacked for her bigoted and ignorant comments

    • J. Menteith

look who is the bigot now, By not allowing her to have an opinion that makes YOU the bully and bigot.

      • Rob

exactly. other peoples right take second place to her own right to comment

      • J Harrison

Yes so True very ignorant & Bigoted .!

      • Andrea Ruming

I believe in freedom of speech I think Sonja is saying what a lot of people are thinking but not game enough to say Chanel nine did the right thing by standing by her . I wish all people would get along but in today’s world it’s just not going to happen .

      • And you should get educated and open your eyes and ears, foolish person.

    • Desleigh

You r the bigot. What is wrong with saying you want to feel safe in our own country. Do u not believe there r terrorists out there. If 200 muslims arrive in this country and potential 5 would b terrorists which 5 would they be. Good on you sonia. With u all the way.

    • Murray Korff

And you’re a bigot for trying to stifle debate
So she should be fired for expressing an opinion or how she’s feeling? YOU’RE the disgraceful one.

      • Terry Woods

go Sonia, yes channel 9 should back her, she is entitled to her opinion, or is that ANOTHER right we are losing?

    • greg

What, frightened to hear the truth. Its what she said. Statistics prove countries with high muslim immigration are suffering the most terrorist attacks where Japan by comparison has none. If we can’t as a nation talk about this without being called racists or bigots we may as well give in to idiot lefties like you. I myself won’t .

    • ken Burnett

bull.we live in a free speech country.Dont lije it then leave Australia

    • Glenda Beck

She said nothing bigoted or racist. You are the bigot! She has concerns for the future like many of us do and if you don’t then i would say you are a fool. You don’t see what is happening to this country the invasion has only just begun here it starts with the building of Mosques and then they come. Do some reading about Muhammed and what is written in the Koran and see if it doesn’t change your mind.

      • cee

Yes read the life of mohammed it will open your eyes…

        • James

The life of the prophet pedophile, rapist, extortsionist, murderer and by modern day standards someone who is mentally unstable, someone who encourages crimes against humanity in his name for self gratification. No thanks.

    • Yvonne W

You sound bitter & twisted. Fortunately sense prevailed & Sonia still has her job. She has every right to her opinion

    • Sharon

I don’t agree with what Sonia said BUT!!! It’s her opinion as is the opposite view mine. There are 1000’s of people that agree…. There are 1000’s of people that disagree … I think people need to settle and let it go . I don’t believe she should lose her job and I think the fanatical knockers need to give it a rest …

    • Sonia Kruger has the right to voice her opinion just as you are Maya, it is called free speech

    • Raelene

Sonia is right we don’t want them here?

    • A Breeden

Oh for Chrissake is this or is this not a democracy?

    • cee

Why is that bigoted? If you look up the meaning of BIGOT in the dictionary you will see that there is only one group of people on earth that’s fits the definition of BIGOT and that group of people are islamists!

    • You obviously like the fact that Australians have freedom of speech as you have just had your say, well Sonja has the same rights as you or in your eyes it is only people that that think like you who should have freedom of speech, take that way and the fanatics have once again.

    • Ian

She, like every other citizen of this country is entitled to an opinion, it’s called freedom of speech.

    • Ian

She, like every other citizen of this country is entitled to an opinion, it’s called freedom of speech.

    • Klaus

We do still have “Freedom of speech” . Sadly, it is written in very small letters.
But is’nt great, so you can make a stupid statement like that.

    • Well I am not saying I agree or disagree with Sonja but I will say this, we live in Australia and everyone has the right to their own opinion, we also have freedom of speech in this country so why Maya should Sonja be sacked for voicing hers? It seems to me that if we don’t agree with what you consider right then we are branded bigoted and ignorant.

    • Dennis Rice

She is 100% right in what she said

    • Kerry

What is disgraceful about them. She only spoke the truth or aren’t you aware of whats happening in Europe. Her comments were not ignorant they were informed and she is entitled to them.

    • Ian

Don’t like it Maya? I suggest then that you go back to your country and if that’s Australia, I suggest you shut up as our forefathers fought for you to have your little bit on here. It’s called ‘freedom of speech’. And this is exactly what gave you the right to have your say.

      • Norm in Ngunnawal country

I kind of agree. All you white fools should go back to where you came from.

        • Lance

Sorry Norm , your people didn’t just magically appear in Australia , they came from somewhere . Perhaps we all should take off and leave it to the animals . After all they were here first .

        • Gary

If all of the white left the aborigines and refugees would have no one to pay their bills for them. Where would they be then?

    • Patricia

She is saying what a lot of people are thinking and she has the right to say it whether you agree or not so suck it up

    • Sonia’s comments are not bigoted in any way. Please look up the meaning of the word before using it in a sentence….

    • swanman

Maya, you are the bigot, you have no tolerance of another’s view. You should understand your Nnglish before you make a dick of yourself. i

    • swanman

Maya, you are the bigot, you have no tolerance of another’s view. You should understand your English before you make a dick of yourself.

    • Reet

You are a fool & you should keep your bigoted & ignorant opinion to yourself, as you will say i should.
Miss krugar has an opinion & is free to voice it, as you are. Can you, with out any doudt, tell me who is a peaceful loving muslim & who is a radical muslim that will enter this country. Until someone can guarantee that every muslim that enters our country will live harmoniously with others here, why should we open ourselves up to what other countries are experiencing & suffering through at the moment.
My turkish brother in law, who i love, and his family are muslim & the most beautiful people i can think of. The live in harmony & love australia. I have NO fear of them, they do not abuse their religion with radical thinking & hatred to those who do not follow their religion.
So gaurantee me that Maya & sure they can enter my country.4

    • Deby

Whether you consider her comments bigoted she should be able to express her opinion as you have just done ……are we in a democracy

    • Andy Hodson

That’s disgraceful. You should be banned from the internet for sharing your opinion that I disagree with so strongly .
I feel outrage that you would disagree with me so I’m going to have your voice on this matter silenced so that I am never again discomforted by your views.
How dare you not think the way I approve.
      Really. Some people!

    • Christine collins

Wake up we have free speech in this country.

    • Marion Pallas

nothing bigoted about her remarks, she stated an opinion that is felt by a vast majority of Australians

    • Maryanne

Sonia has the right to express her views. I admire her strength to say what the majority of people fear to say. The fact that there are so many attacks on innocent people contradicts a peaceful religion. Sonia you did NOTHING wrong!@

    • Heather

we all think what Sonia says so lets soport her all the way. Australia is changing. I soport other races into my country of birth but they come and respect our way of life. I’ve had muslin men come into my place of work and will not let me serve them because I’m a woman. Then have the cheek to say I’m being disrespectful to him ah in my women are equal so he is being disrespectful to me.. There is good and bad in every race but you fit in to way of life if you don’t like it there is the airport also if you break the law off you go go back to wher you come from.

    • Peter

Thankfully free speech is Legal in Australia and tolerant of diverse opinions unlike many other places in the world. Sonia shouldn’t be punished for her views as a media commentator and host.

    • Peter

Thankfully free speech is Legal in Australia and tolerant of diverse opinions unlike many other places in the world. Sonia shouldn’t be punished for her views as a media commentator and host.

    • Adelaide

I think she should be praised for her courage!

    • Harold

If she is sacked we no longer have a democratic scociety based on free speech

    • Maya, Sonia had every right to voice HER opinion, as you have yours, who says you’re right and she’s wrong, I for one fully support Sonia, why shouldn’t we want to feel safe in our own country.

    • Noreen McCabe

Good on you Sonia for saying what many Australians think, and as Australians we are entitled to an opinion on who we are allowing into this Country when they don’t assimilate or live by our laws and customs and way of life by trying to impose their ideology on us. Well done Channel 9 for your stance in supporting Sonia.

    • bigoted ….who is a bigot this country allows free speech Sonia is only using her right to speak out her opinion

    • Greg

You are a brain dead lefty Maya. Freedom of speach is what made this country.

    • Justine

You are clearly a very ignorant person ,Sonia did nothing more than speak the truth the more Muslims we have the more problems we will have ,it’s that simple.

    • its you who are ignorant maya go and live in engl;and like i did for 35 yrs you will change your mind if they are not stopped by their population growth your grandchildren will be subject to sharia law married at 10 raped at 10 like case in england women have half rights wear black stoned to death for being accused share husband with up to 3 other wives, throw acid in your face or kill you as a honor killing, theres lots more, wake up do your research, because you like most of the population dont care till it happens not tyo yuou but your children and grand children, is this the future you want for them

    • Peter

Dont like freedom of speech I’m sure you know how to leave

    • The only bigot I see here is you Maya. People have the right to their opinions and you and all the other bigots like you try to shut others down. Crawl back into your hole , you have had your say.

    • Raymond Foulkes-Taylor

You are the ignorant one. MUSLIMS PRAY TO MARHOMED who was a practising PEDOPHILE he married a 6 year old & CONSIMATED THE MARRIAGE WHEN SHE WAS 6 YEARS OLD.SO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR W.ASTE HOLE MORON.

    • Vaughn

Your the only disgrace in the comments section Maya and chanel 9 can do better and listen to the aussie majority. HADAGUTFULL.

    • Yolanda Brown

Are you kidding. Of course she should not be sacked. I havent met one person who does not agree with her. Sorry Maya, look up the word Bigot. It describes you exactly. You also show extreme ignorance. I have actually changed to channel 7 and aborted channel 9. Not because of Sonia but because i have had a gutful of Lisa and Carl and their one eyed crap. Anyone else who treats Sonia badly will be someone i have no respect for and would not bother with. Thank goodness though none of them are like you.

    • Chris

You seem quite happy bandying the label “bigot”, so now I have a challenge for you. Would you be so kind as to explain to all of us what, exactly, you think it means to be a bigot, and how that label applies to Sonia Kruger?

    • Lyn Backen

Why should she be fired because she is wary of the problems happening in Europe I’m worried as well. I live in Australia we still have free speech here and every one has their own opinion. You may have another view I’m concerned that not talking openly about any subject is bad. Everything should be open and transparent or we risk our freedom.

    • Bill White

You just exercised your right to free speech as did Sonia . Who is right and who is wrong?

    • Glennis

Certain television and radio stations are well know for always having a political bias. One comment from Sonia and their is an outcry. Could it be because she’s a woman. Well done channel nine.

    • Will campbell

You idiot ,of course she shouldn’t be sacked she is saying what all normal Australians are saying. Wash your mouth out for such rot saying she should be sacked

    • James m

Well done Sonia it is about time someone spoke up for what MOST Australians think. I have many Muslim freinds who actually think the same because they are scared of these fanatics.

    • Phil

HI Maya, I’m reading through the comments. Without mentioning Sonia, can you please explain to me what is innaccurate in what she says?

    • Stephen Truscott

Maya how did you manage to put forward your biased opinion! Freedom to speak mind?????

    • Dale Asmus

What part of her comment was bigoted or ignorant. She voiced an opinion based on what she has seen heard and read as have many have also in this nation. That does not mean she is ignorant of past present and future events and why how and by whom they have been perpetrated or incited…… we are allowed to form an opinion even if the media tries its best to tell us what we should think or not be informed about!! ……..? for fear of offending certain people, groups or faiths. Iam offended the public is treated like ignorant children that need to be fed media propaganda with no d proper debate about the direction this country s going. Sonia was at least braver than most TV presenters these days.

    • Gwen Fisher

So, are your comments related to the freedom of speech? Or should you also be ‘sacked’?

    • Ann

Really Maya how is she a bigot get your head out of the sand, there is nothing wrong with the truth. Great work Sonia and its great to see so many people speaking up about this problem.

    • Gina Box

My god why is she ignorant she is scared for her future as a lot of us are.

    • Gina Box

My god why is she ignorant she is scared for her future as a lot of us are.

    • Geoff

You are aStupid blind Dead head..
She is so rite withcher thoughts..
How dare you say that about her..

    • Paul

In that case, sack Waleed Ali for his bigotry!

      • Justin

I agree. It’s funny how the rules are different

    • Justin

Your ignorant for thinking someone having there say should be fired. If she has no right to say what she said, what right do you have to say your stupid comment. Open your bloody eyes. Bloody lefties!!!!!

    • p cason

and as a white australian your thoughts should be banned as stupid

Bullying and intimidation is the way of thugs …Australians should stand up for Sonia it’s no wonder there is so much Crapola in the world

    • OK Maya how many of these mongrels who kill/rape and mutilate young girls do you pay for and keep only to be kicked in the guts for giving them a better life???????????????/

    • Laura

Which part of her comment was bigoted? The part where she said she had plenty of muslim friends who were peace-loving people? Which part of her comment was ignorant? The part where she told the truth about the correlation between Islam & terrorism? I think you’re the bigoted & ignorant one.

    • Are you out of your mind or drunk?99% of Australians support Sonia. Thanks channel nine. This is the right dessision 🇦🇺

    • Jen

Let’s make sure we stamp out any opinions that don’t agree with, right??

    • Robyn

And who is the racist one here, I think you Maya, freedom of speech is good, not name calling and pigeon holing a person because they speak their truth.

    • Mark Anderson

I am a Muslim but before u call her remarks ignorant maybe u should look at the facts. 99% of Muslims are peace loving. That leaves 1% who are fanatical terrorists so the more Muslims the more fanatics if u go by statistics. Look at the facts with France & Belgium then see if you can
call her statements ignorant & factually wrong.

  4. Margaret Palisi

We are all entitled to our opinion. And advocate free speech. We all need to reconise that

    • Judy

I think most of australia would agree with sonia good on her for standing up for Australia we need more people to do the same if nine sack her my family willnever watch another show on nine again freedom of speech .we would try to change there country so dont change ours

      • Dorothy Dunshea

        I agree totally with Judy.

    • Anne Hughes

Agree with Maya, with the words “bigoted & ignorant” pure & simple. Push on people?

  5. Emilia

We still have ‘freedom of speech’ here, I believe, so let her speak her mind.
Like Pauline, she’s only said what many Aussies’ are thinking, in light of all the horrendous attacks’ by these fanatical Muslim nut-jobs, either as a group, or singularly.

They’ve been a scourge on Westernized countries’ for Millenia, & continue to be so, even worse now with modern technology at their deathly fingertips’.

    • Leanna

Hang on a minute, ‘they’re lone wolfs and mentally ill’ aren’t they?

    • How very true. Sonia had the brass 2 say what most “Aussie’s feel & speak about amongst themselves, she should b applauded!!!

      • Bernadette

She only saying what most Australian are saying we are a free country or has the Muslims taken that away from us or dont the stations and government have no balls to hear how we feel now

    • Lawrence

Totally agree with every word you said,

  6. Margaret Palisi

We are all entitled to our opinion. And advocate free speech. We all need to reconise that

  7. Cynthia Power

Of course she should be free, to make a comment. We still live in a democracy. Channel Nine should however get a dance program up and running. She would then be able to comment on a subject that she knows something about.

    • Snowwhite

Excellent response Cynthia Power. I agree wholeheartedly. I will always defend the right of a person to state their opinion. However I don’t agree with what she espouses but as previously mentioned the last time I looked we are a democracy.

      • Marian mo cur stevens

How much proof do you need? Haven’t you heard or read about the devastation these wretched Moslem refuges have wreaked in Europe ? They are arrogant savages raping and causing women to go in fear . As for our own homegrown Moslems they aren’t telling their preachers to tone down their inflammatory doctrine nor are they turning in the would be militants and we have had a few of those in oz

    • Lyn Green

Thank goodness Channel 9 showed commonsense and explained their situation very well. I agree with Channel 9 about debating this problem but it can be a sensitive debate and should be done properly. I partly agree with Sonia but not to stop ALL Muslims from coming to Australia. As Sonia said she has Muslim friends so I don’t understand why she would go to the extreme and stop all Muslims from coming.

  8. Norman Tyler

Wait a minute, what about the many thousands who supported her on line, out of all the comments I read there was only one that was against her. She and we should all speak our minds. What another BS article!

    • Kerry Head

My thoughts exactly . I read a lot more supportive replies than negative ones. We’re all entitled to our own opinions.

    • Carolynne Hetel

In a democracy you may speak your mind. I respect her for having the courage to have an opinion and express it. good on you Sonia, we all have friends of many nationalities and different faiths, but we are all disgusted at the fuss about your opinion, hardly a squeak about the atrocities in Nice and Munich.

    • Vivienne

Pure rubbish. Ch 9 knows the public in the main supported Sonia. I would say the majority of the 1/2 million voters who voted for Paulune Hanson would have voiced their support for Sonia I and all of my friends called Ch 9 supporting Sonia

  9. Pam

Sonia has said what people are feeling.
Channel 9 will find out the backlash eventually if they get rid of her.
We are saddened eveytime we turn the news on .
About time people like Sonia spoke here mind..We may get our Australia back if more were like her

  10. Sharon luck

    She is spot on!

    • Diane Mueller

I agree with Sonia a healthy debate on the subject is good for the country, get it out in the open & you will be surprised how many think the same as her I know I do!

    • Sharyn

Australia is supposed to be a free country, with freedom of speech for all. Only it seems that it’s only freedom of speech as long as we all agree with the goodie two shoes that are the minority running the place. Good on you Sonia keep your chin up because more agree with you than don’t

    • Sharyn

  11. Rosanne Newton

Sonia had every to voice her personal opinion and she is not alone in being frightened that we will targets for terrorism.

    • Vicki Lesley

I totally agree….Sonia has every right to say how she feels..Good on Nine for sticking by her.

    • Me too! ADULT being the operative word! Fickle, let it go, enjoy all the other ninety-nine percent of our lucky country’s gifts and concern ur selves with speaking up to avoid the trashing the ‘Polies’ u voted for here are doing to us. I am more frightened of them!! 😳
